Need a new golf ball, main NEED is greenside spin

hi guys and gals, i am looking for a new ball and want some feedback on everyones experience.

little about me, 8.5 hcp, driver swing speed 105-108 ave 6 iron 185 carry, i have no problem with height or spin.

I currently use a callaway hex chrome + i prefer a softer feel vs a hard distance ball.

I am looking for the best non-tour ball. something under $40. I know pro-v1 would prob be up there but don't want to spend $45 a dozen.

i want a softer feel and when i am chipping, i like flying not far from target and have it check and stop.

i like the chrome +, it is a great 4 peice ball and price but callaway is no longer making it and i am tired of finding a ball i like for it to only last 1 year then the following year a new name ball comes along.

any thought on golf balls?

Buy 2013 pro vs with logos from one of the sites, same ball as this year. Keep a few new sleeves for tournaments.

I liked the chrome too but nothing beats pro V1x for me in green side spin.

do you think the pro v 1x spins more greenside than reg pro v?

Thanks.

I have played the TM Project (a) and it has great spin for $31.99 (I found them on sale). Some other reasonable choices are the Maxfli U/4 or U/6 (on sale at Dicks).
[/quote]

I will second the Project A. Our TM rep tossed us a couple sleeves and I have been playing them for a couple rounds now and love the feel I get. Much softer feel than the Tour Preferred and I really haven't noticed any flight changes with my longer clubs. Great buy for around $30 a dozen

I would recommend checking out ebay. There's a good deal of mint conditioned ProV1s and ProV1xs for sale.

I picked up 50 mint ProV1s (2011 version) for $77.00, that's with the shipping.

That's $1.54 a ball. Very, very difficult to beat that.

your right, to play a great ball like a prov 1 doesnt have to be 45 per dozen. they can be aaa used or "practice" balls which have no performance issues just blemishes or 2012 and prior. those are still great balls.

didnt think of it that way much.

the prov 1 has better green side spin or are they the same and the prov 1 is just softer?

For me it does. The non X feels and lands "softer" but the X spins more and will end up shorter on the green.

Any urethane covered ball will get you the greenside spin you are looking for, and you don't need to spend $40 a dozen

I recently bought 7 dozen Lethal practice balls for $9.99 a dozen. If you want a non-tour ball that is inexpensive with good spin, I'd go with the e5's. They have urethane covers and are about $25 a dozen.

If you want "new" Pro V1x golf balls you can get them in an X-out form by the dozen.. Then you can sharpie out the X-out part and use it as a putter line.

A salesman at the local Golftown told me that they were discontinuing their Chromes, but the Chrome + would still be continued. Might be something worth looking into. I was also sad when I heard Chromes were being discontinued, but was happy to hear the +'s will still be around. Suppose it explains why Chromes have been on sale there several times already and Chrome + only once.

The B330-S is the best ball I've ran into, especially for greenside spin. Give me that ball and a sand wedge all day. I had one back up 20 feet on 18 today, just an absolute ripper. The low one hop check shot is very do-able.

Is this the "old" ones, or this years? I've been playing the older ones, as I stocked up over the winter, but after playing a round with an NXT tour the other day, I'm 20 yards longer with the NXT than I am with the U4. (I haven't tried this year's U4 yet).

I had planned on staying with the U4's, as I really like the spin from inside 100 yards, but now I'm second guessing that I'd really like to be hitting 9 iron into that same green instead of a 7 iron, even with less spin.

I'm playing last years U4 but my understanding is that they are the same ball. I generally don't see much distance difference off the tee between most golf balls. I've hit long drives with both surlyn and urethane ball. Where my game is at I need a better check up on the greens.

Personal preference definitely comes into play when choosing a ball.

I would think by now everyone would know about the pro v1 promotion Titleist does every spring. Around March every year you can buy 3 doz and get one free. I buy them thru DD's and they end up being closer to $35ish a doz. If 4 doz won't get you thru the year do like I did and have your wife order some as well. You can't beat that deal on brand new pro v1's straight from Titleist! Why not play the best ball on the planet for the cost of a mid price tour ball??!!??

Many of the balls already mentioned might work for you. However many of them might still be above the $40 price. Check LostGolfBalls.com, they always have quality balls at great prices.

My own two cents-- the Bridgestone B5 & the Srixon Q-Star are cheaper balls that provide very good spin for me. I prefer these two over an NXT any day of the week & I believe they are also cheaper than the NXT. THe king for spin is the Pro V1X.
