Just moved to DC, need new courses to play!

Hey all,

 

I just moved to DC from NJ to start grad school, and I'm in need of some info about courses. I'd preferably like to find one or two "home" tracks that are cheap (student budget) but at least in reasonable condition. I'm currently living in Adams Morgan, so closer the better I guess. I saw Rock Creek, Langston and East Potomac when I was googling local courses...any other recommendations from WRX'ers in the area? Thanks in advance!

golf is pricey in the DC metro area.....on weekend rates for a decent course are 70+

you could try the DC muni, east patomac, played it maybe 4 times this season, great condition, pretty straight forward..just need to get out early to avoid the 5+ round.

just recently played Stonewall out in Gainesville, VA, place was top notch, one of the better options in the area. Lake Presidential is really good as well.....the Montgomery county muni's are really good too.

I just moved out of DC last year, but i also lived in Adams Morgan. I started playing golf while I lived in DC so I started at cheap courses that were not busy. Rock Creek is close by, cheap and usually not busy from what I remember but the conditions are what you pay for in DC. I played the blue and red East Potomac courses a few time but I never played Langston. The last few years I was there I would rather drive 45-60min to play nicer courses.

I second Gonzo in that some of the Montgomery county Muni's are nice. Little bennett is affordable but a bit of a drive up 270. I played Hampshire green a bunch too and it is usually in good condition. If you can get a deal on golfnow I would highly recommend Laurel Hills which is in VA. They had the us amateur public links there last year. I played as a single a bunch there and I was often paired with an aspiring web.com tour player. It's also a quicker drive to get there compared to other courses. My recommendation is us rock creek parkway to get through the city if you can.

I also recommend Blue Mash, Whiskey Creek and Worthington Manor. They are very good tracks but a little more expensive. DC golf is not cheap.

Adams Morgan? i gotta throw in a shout out to Smoke & Barrel as they have some good bbq and spirits.

I would suggest figuring out a way to play at Andrews as it has some fun courses. Stonewall is good too.
