Remove the red anodized color from Cameron GoLo 5 Sole Plate? You sure can!

I decided to hang on to this putter and strip the red anodized finish from the original sole plate. After doing some research, it seemed like the easiest thing to use was Easy Off Heavy Duty Oven Cleaner found at WalMart for $4!

 

Here's what you need:

 

Easy Off Oven Cleaner

Latex Gloves

Some type of metal or hard plastic container big enough for the sole plate to fit it.

 

Once the sole plate is removed from the putter, I simply placed it in a metal bowl and sprayed the Easy Off all over the entire surface of the sole plate. Wait 10-15 minutes, remove, and rinse in clean water. Flip the sole plate over to the other side and repeat the process. * Make sure you do this work outside or in a well ventilated area!

 

The red anodization literally falls right off. Once rinsed in water just wipe with a clean soft towel and your done.

Yeah I like it. Still don't know if I'm polish it up and paint fill it and leave it it's natural color or put some black polymer on it.

It won't remove the pvd from the Selects.

Just nut up and give it a go. It's easy to do and works like a charm. Taking off the plate is easy. Just immerse in the greased lightning or whatever you choose for about 15 minutes and it'll come right off. If there are any stubborn areas, take a cheap firm bristle toothbrush and give it a good scrub.

I went with the black polymer on the sole plate of the fastback. White paint fill on sole plate for a nice contrast. I love the way it came out. I kept the rest of the putter head the original stainless color.

I'm looking for another fastback or squareback to experiment on. I'd like to go black on the putter head and leave the sole plate in the aluminum color.

It takes a little practice, but it's fairly easy once you get it down.

I used a thermally cured polymer coating. Its an aluminum plate, so having it anodized is another option.

I'm sorry for my ignorance but what is a "thermally cured polymer coating"? Sounds like you had to send it out? I want to convert my GoLo7 to a blue model. Tahnks.

It's something that can be done at home. The polymer coating has to be sprayed on and heat cured. An oven will do the trick nicely to cure it.

Polish it? It's a sturdy finish that holds it's lustre, be it matte, satin, or gloss depending on the polymer you get. And polymer is available in those options. And buffing or even light sanding could dull the finish.

what size hex allen wrench did you need for the squareback... and what did you actually use to remove the red color? looking to do this to my squareback and leave it the raw color.

The allen wrench to remove the sole plate screws is 1/16
