I want to lay indoor putting green turf in a unused hardwood floor room. Suggestions?

With Winter fast approaching, I am not ready to give up golf. And I want to be able to practice this summer so I am ready to lay down some green to lay some fake green and practice on the greens all winter.

I don't want to build anything too special, I'll probably just lay a piece of 15' x 10' down in the dining room no one uses and putt to a white dot or something. But I have no idea what material will simulate an actual green the best.

Here's some of the stuff I've found so far: http://www.turffactorydirect.com/putting_greens.html

Price is $160 Shipped - $400 Shipped (15' x 10' minimum order) depending on the material. I don't want to spend $400 but somewhere around $200 would be OK. Has anyone done something similar? Suggestions?

Thanks guys!

Check out Big Moss putting greens. I have one, and it's excellent. They make numerous sizes. If you search the forums, you'll find several reviews and discussion threads.

I went through this a few years back when searching for material to build a putting green in my basement. Basically you're going to have a hard time finding a material in the price range you're looking for. I've read of a few people getting good pricing like what you're looking for, but they're the exception rather than the rule. You either have to know somebody or be in the right place at the right time and get scraps or leftovers from an install job, or get the used stuff from a facility that's getting new turf.

FWIW I ended up with a simple fairly smooth carpet that rolls pretty true and quick and am satisfied.

I like the 12' x 3' strips on ebay for about $60. You can cut a hole in it and even put it on plywood. You can move it all around and chip to it. Mine accepts pitches nicely.

I'm pretty sure the company is sgw. I'm thinking of getting one more and building a platform out of 2x4's and plywood with one on each side and a place to stand in the middle.

On hardwood floor - I'd go with Birdie Ball. Cheap and you can get any size you want for under $200.

I have one in our unfinished basement and it rolls great. It's foam but it really works well.

Not sure if or how you can do this, but a buddy just built a putting green in his golf studio. He's in construction, but also does club fitting, lessons, etc. His office has concrete floors so he put bondo down in different parts of the floor to create some breaks, and then purchased the roll(not sure of size or where he got it). I haven't seen the final product, but he had applied the bondo last time I was by there. He has said that it works like a charm though and now he can practice L to R and R to L instead of just straight putts all the time.

Again not sure how that can be recreated on your wood floors, but something similar to that would be cool.

I have one of these.. They are great, but do demand plenty of space.
I have this one http://www.bigmoss.com/The-General-_p_126.html

If I had it to do over I would have went with this: http://www.bigmoss.com/The-Original-EX2_p_114.html

Actually thinking "down sizing"

If you are just putting and not chipping, I'd recommend some indoor/outdoor carpet from Home Depot. It's like 15 bucks for a six by eight piece and it rolls better than anything I've ever used. It's almost like a felt material. I went through a similar dilemma as you a few years ago and the option just stared was the best for me.

Most of the stuff like big moss and birdieball are just ridiculously overpriced imo

Actually yeah you're right but big moss and others of the like are too pricy for what you get
