Looking for a new ball to play

Lefty94

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, I just joined the forum today, so go easy on me.

Anyway I am looking for a new ball. I currently (for about 3 years) play the Nike Power Distance Super Soft. It's one of Nike's mid-level balls. I have really enjoyed playing it. But I recently have upgraded and changed all my equipment and was looking to mix it up and try something new.

I have played both the Pro v1 and the v1x and I haven't been crazy about them. But it has been a few years, so maybe it's worth another look.

Anyone have any thoughts or suggestions?

Well welcome to the forum man. Hope you enjoy your stay.

As for a ball... your options are endless. Do you want more spin or more distance? Do you like the soft cover of the Pro V1 or would you prefer something harder? Help us help you :good:

Something softer that spins a little more, without sacrificing to much distance. My short game, particularly 100yds in is my biggest problem. Anything that would help me stop the ball better (although a new short game would work too) is probably what I am looking for.

If you're looking for a mid-range ball, try the Bridgestone E6+ or the Callaway HX Hot Bite. Both great balls.

High end, I'd say maybe the new Callaway Tour IX or the Taylormade TP Red LDP. They my favorites so far.

In all honestly, I think the best, all around performer for me, is the E6+. If I'm feeling lazy and not swinging as hard as I usually do, I lose a lot of distance with the higher end balls. They're made to really be compressed a lot, so you have to give them a pretty good swing.

The guy at the local golf shop recommended either the Callaway HX Hot Bite or the Taylor Made Burner TP LDP. I have never played anything by either of these 2 companies. Are these worth checking out?

Yes both are good balls....

When you buy Taylormade you're buying a maxfli and back 6 years ago they were neck and neck with titliest in terms of ball performance. The Maxfli Revolution was one hell of a ball...

Try the Gamer over the hot bite (Same company, same ball specs, much cheaper). Also try the NXT Tour...

I thought he was looking for a ball that spins more than or at least as much as the Pro V1? black%20eye.gif

The guy at your pro shop probably suggested it right. I personally didn't like the way the HX hot bites played, but I've used the HX hot and I like those. One of my best friend's uses the Burner TP and he loves it. If you want a high end ball, look into the Callaway Tour ix. I got a sample sleeve of that ball and I loved it. The only thing I didn't like was how fast it scuffed. I'm about to make the switch from Nike Ignites to Srixon Z-URS or AP333's. I liked the ignites, I just hear a lot of good stuff about Srixon balls.

If you used the older v1 and v1x I agree, I hated them. The 2007 version is a huge upgrade IMHO and you should retry them. If you have the swing speed, and hit fairly straight or at least can control it, the Platinums a great ball.

Other than that, I am not a fan of the new Cally IX ball, but the HX tour which it replaced was good. The Nike Black is a similar ball as well. Personally I liked last years version better.

If you want cheaper, I hear the gamer from TF does well around the greens, but I haven't tried.

Yeah I played the Pro V1's a few years ago, and I couldn't put my finger on it but I just didn't like them. To tell you the truth I have never been a Titlest guy. I have tried the Pro V's the DT so-lo's and the NXT's. Maybe I don't have the game for them or something, but I just didn't like them for whatever reason.

As for what I am looking for, something softer that has good spin and green control, without giving up distance. My current ball is long off the tee and has a good soft feel for putting, but I don't like how it comes off my wedges and I can't spin it at all. The weakest part of my game is 110 yards and in or my wedge play, so anything that helps in that regard would be great.

If you like soft you won't like the cally ix, Titleist v1x or the nike black. Seriously if you want spin and soft, the new v1 really is a pretty damn good ball. Buy a sleeve.

I don't like either version of the taylor made balls, they are like hitting old topflite rock, IMHO.

Beyond that try the gamer. Maybe the Bridgestone 330s. I havent't tried either, but that bridgestone is next on my list to try.

Will do. I will try the V1's again. Also I to have heard good things about the Bridgestone but haven't tried them. I will add them to the list.

Thanks for the help.

Another vote for the Taylormade TP red, I am normally a Pro V1 guy but have made a few changes as I get a bit too much spin with those. Would like to try the new Callaway ball, the softer one of the two.

Driver = Callaway Smoke-Ai Max-D

3 wood = Callaway Smoke-Ai Max HL

3 Hybrid = Taylormade Stealth Pro
Irons = 4-PW Miura KM 700
Gap Wedge = Miura HB 50*

Sand Wedge = Taylormade MG2 56*

Putter = LAB DF3

Ball = TP5x pix

Just picked up a sleeve of the Taylor Made Burner TP. Gonna play them tomorrow and Saturday. I have chipping in the backyard and putting in the house and they feel nice. After these gonna try some of the other balls you guys mentioned.

Thanks

I had a chance to try out the new TP Red ball yesterday and came away very impressed. Naturally my first instinct was to try crushing it off the tee... ended up hitting a little low and heel, but it still got out close to my normal landing area. Great distance off the tee and really soft with the putter. I'm a normal HX Tour player but the TP balls have me very interested.

hi,

I game the 07 Srixon Z-URS which is soft with very good greenside spin, quite durable and excellent distance off the tee and low-mid irons. In wet conditions I use the 07 Srixon Z-URC as I don't seem to spin these as much and find these play well in the rain. Both are really good in the wind and reasonably price.

Also use 07 TaylorMade TP Red (simialr to the Z-URS) and TP Black (similar to Z-URC). Once again they are sold at very good prices. I did find the 07 versions had a solid feel off my putter but apart from that they have it all.

Premium golf balls that I've used when the money is flowing and recommend are 07 Pro V1, 08 Callaway HX Tour IX and 08 TP Red or Blacks.
