Protest the Pro V1

Recommended Posts

After being a loyal fan of the ProV1 I have to let go. The price is out of control. After Tax it is almost $50 a dozen. The NXT Tour ball is the ball I'm now playing and have gained a full club in my irons but lost driver distance and lost the bite on wedges I have grown used to. Even though I shoot more consistant scores with the NXT Tour, I have fond memories of the Pro V1. Spinning off greens into into bunkers and knee deep in the pond just to save a 5 dollar ball. Oh well...good buy ProV1

ProV1s are $50 BEFORE taxes up here in Canada. Because of that, I've never once played a new one. I buy tour balls on close out since I can't believe that there is THAT much of a difference between years of a product. I recently picked up a few dozen 2007 NOBs for $27 - the price really stands out beside the 2008 version at $50/dozen. They aren't my favourite ball, but I can be guilt-free when tossing them into my shag bag after a round or two (assuming I don't lose them). I'm crossing my fingers that the HX Tour 56 will be slashed as soon as the new Tour i balls are readily available. I've got a few others that I have to try before they completely disappear: last year's TP black, Maxfli Fire Tour come immediately to mind.

Bridgestone E5... I still don't understand why folks continue to pay that much for a ball. I've played ProV1's and I am a 15HC. The E5's give me just as much control around the greens as the Prov1's. Plus I buy the E5's used which are in perfect playing condition through LostGolfBalls...or whatever their name is.

I firmly believe the ProV is overrated due to the price. It's one of those things that people buy because certain people play them......Ok I better stop talking about it now.

Try the Nike Ignite @ $24 or less per dozen. It is a three piece ball just like the PRO V1, it has a soft cover, and it is LOOOOOOONNNGGG!

Over the years I have tried all the latest Callaway balls, the last couple of balls from Taylormade, nikes offerings and a few from Srixon but I enjoy hitting the Pro V1 most of all and I play the best golf with it, it does suck that they cost so much but they are my ball of choice. As with everything though I am always trying the latest balls and if something does help me enjoy my game even more the Pro V1 will be replaced

Driver = Callaway Smoke-Ai Max-D

3 wood = Callaway Smoke-Ai Max HL

3 Hybrid = Taylormade Stealth Pro
Irons = 4-PW Miura KM 700
Gap Wedge = Miura HB 50*

Sand Wedge = Taylormade MG2 56*

Putter = LAB DF3

Hi there,

For me 2007 TaylorMade TP Red/Black and Srixon Z-URS/Z-URC are the best value for money premium ball. IMO they play as good as the Pro V1 and easily half the price. Not only that I found these one alot more durable.

Thumbs up to the Bridestone E5 and E6 as well which are very solid and cheaper still. I use these on my fun rounds and play the ones I mentioned for club champs etc. I recommend buying used ones from a reputable company see how you like them and buy them new.

I also sell a S**t load of new Pro V's with various company logos that are $8 USD cheaper than the retail ones. If you still want to play the Pro V's on special rounds then these are a great option.

I recently switched to the tour ix. It's slightly cheaper, but i use it because its a better ball, regardless of price. I'm a Titleist guy, so it was hard for me to come to grips with this, but the truth shall set you free :wacko:

I disagree 100 percent, just recently I performed a test(twice that is)between these two balls Prov1x and tour ix, My Findings, I found the Prov1x to be longer off the tee by 5-10 yards, and the same off the irons, but short game the Prov1x was far superior, and the feel off the putter was so much better for the Prov1x... Price of a ball doesnt matter, I just want the best ball for me, I went out and bought 12 boxes of Prov1x's to stock up for a long time.......

Good luck with your ball of choice, I hope it gives you better scores

Gee! You guys complain about the price in the USA. What should I say: here in Switzerland they sell them on retail for a whopping 89.0 CHF!!! The Swiss Franc is now on par with the USD. I am just happy to play the Callaway Big Bertha that I pay 45 CHF new!!! Duh! I love to play the Pro V1, but I only play it when I find some lost ones on the course.

I should start selling my golfing wares in Switzerland as well NZ. That price is horrendous and I thought it was bad here $99 NZD retail which is approx 77 USD. I shouldn't complain too much as I make a nice profit selling these :wacko: .

IMO, the Tour ix is hands downs the best ball on the market. If it weren't expensive as all get out I would play it all the time. I was impressed with the Hot Bite as well. I will play just about anything before Titleist balls.

Agree with everything TM Golf Guy said. I played Callaway HX Tours last year and will be gaming the Tour IX this year. Callaways premium balls are easily 15 yards longer than a pro V off the tee for me and feel better off the irons. Wedges are about the same.

I also really like the Taylormade TP reds. You can get last year's model for $25/dozen new.

Alternatives would be Wilson ZIP and TopFlite Gamer, which are rediculously cheap and are pretty descent balls. IF anyone is on a tight budget, I would highly recommend those two.

After experimenting with about every ball on the market over the last two years, I always seem to come back to the ProV1x. I'm playing my best, most consistent golf in five years and a lot of it has do with playing the same ball round after round. To me, it makes sense to spend a few weeks or months trying other balls and then decide on one and really get to know it , especially from 90 and in....even if that ball is $25 box of E5 or 6's. Pick a ball you like and stick with it. Us amateurs are way too hard on ourselves to begin with so I think the worst thing you can do is constantly switch balls. E5 and E6 is a great ball but it's going to respond differently than a ProV.

If you're going to protest the ProV1 why wouldn't you use a ball from a different company. Try something that isn't made by Titleist.

Well said! If you're protesting, then why support Fortune Brands marketing budget? After all, they are a 'branding' company so mainly driven by advertising and endorsement $$$, which brainwashes consumers. Have to admit they are very good at it....

Lots of tour guys switching to Cally i and Ix

The e5+ and 330s are better balls anyway, and @$25 a dozen, less if you shop or find on sale, are way better than that NXT (over rated, but it says Titleist)

If protesting, then keep feeding them marketing cash, otherwise BOYCOTT and find a better ball, they are out there, lots of 'em.
