TP Black Reviews?

fellas,

just played this for the first time today. it felt goodd. but off the tee it seemed i lost distance compared to the ball that i normally play, the nxt tour or callaway ix. the ball flight seemed very dead, it would fly out there then drop right out of the sky, rather than penetrate and descend... a ball flight i'm used to seeing. has anyone else found this true?... and isnt the black supposed to be their distance ball

thanks

Read the Dean Snell interview posted on this forum. Very informative.

I've switched from the Prov1x to the TM Black LDP. Very comparable to the Prov1x in short game performance, but markedly better off the driver....specifically on mishits. Not as much distance difference as on solid hits, but easily 15 yds. more on mishits.

Another poster mentioned the TM Red. It is a lower spinning ball than the Black.

I've been very impressed w/the Black & the Red. Black fits my game a little better.

Hi there,

I played the Red and Blacks for about 8 months until I switch over to the Srixon Z-URS.

I didn't find any difference between the Red/Black in terms of distance, durability (very good - if I didn't smash one OB I could get 3-4 rounds), and greenside shots on perfect conditions. So I played the red on days like this as it felt softer while putting.

I played the black in windy as I found it held it's line better. It was also great in wet weather as I did get more distance (10-15 metres sorry guys I have no idea what that is in yards) from my driver in crap weather. Was very good to putt with on slow greens.

Both are great and with the LDP models out the prices have come down alot making them are very good option.

What about greenside chips ? I played the 08 red and was waiting for it to stop. just need A lil more brakes for more control.

The Black checks harder than the Red. I like the Red for my daily play, I spin the ball a lot and the Red helps me hold small greens that I would suck the V1x off of.

During this time of the year here in Michigan many of our greens are still hard and not very responsive to spin, I started playing the Blacks and they are perfect on the harder greens!

So know the new TM LDP ball is a TOTAL SOLUTION for me, Red when I need to to control spin on soft greens and Black when I need a little extra spin on hard greens. Damn I just love technology! Anything that helps me shoot lower scores without having to be a "better golfer" just makes me smile! :clapping:

After several rounds with both the Red and the Black I have found the Black suites my game better.

That is a bit surprising to me because I have always put a lot of spin on the ball with short irons, and the Red is for "high spin players." However the Red just seemed a bit dead around the greens to me, and the Black was about perfect.

My ball over the last couple of years has been the V1x, low spin off the driver but high spin around the greens. The Black is a very interesting ball because it seems to be longer off the tee than the V1x with just a bit less spin around the greens... which for me is about perfect! Not to mention the Black is noticeably softer off the driver and putter than the V1x.

The Red seems to be getting all of the attention because it appears to be the more popular ball with players on tour, however for me the Black seems to fit my game perfect!

I've gotta try the Blacks now that these good reviews are coming in! I always thought that they were supposed to spin about equal around the greens, and that the new black spins more on every other shot??

Also, there have been a lot of reviews that say the new iX is better than the Black LDP, but the 07 black I play now blew the iX away on all aspects. Has anyone else compared the LDP to the iX?

The Black and Red are supposed to spin about the same off the driver, however I have found the Red seems to spin just a bit more. The Red is the low launch ball, therefore I can see why it may need to spin a tad more to help keep the ball in the air, also better players may find it easier to work with there driver. Interestingly enough even with more driver spin on the Red it definitely spins less off the wedges and short iron. The Red is a four piece ball, and its the fourth layer of this ball that allows it the spin to be cut down off the shorter clubs.

The Black just jumps off the driver and goes and goes and goes! Yet around the greens is has a harder bite on low spinning wedge shots and seems to drop and stop off the rest of the short irons.... this is where the Red seemed to release and run a bit.

I have tried the Red and Black head to head against the Cally ix, and for me it was not contest. Both TaylorMade balls killed the ix on feel, and both Red and Black had more spin on the greens. However, the ix is long off the tee, and I do mean long! I would say the Black can keep up, but I believe the Red is a few yards behind the ix. One thing I really disliked about the ix was the feel off the driver, it never felt like I compressed it enough, yet it carried long, so again, I really don't like the feel of this ball.

Read the below link for TM TP Red & Black article review... very detail & descriptive, even though it's for the '07 models:

The problem with the 07 review is that TaylorMade has completely changed the strategy with how the Red and Black play....
