I was wondering what some of the favorite courses to play in the phoenix area are?
[/quote]

Public or Private? I've played 90% of the public courses in the area, and the two We Ko Pa courses would be my pick, mainly because they're out in the middle of the frikin desert, i.e. no surrounding houses.

Quintero, Boulders, Troon North, and Southern Dunes rank up there as well.

Quintero, We Ko Pa, and whatever used to be called Vista Verde (recently renamed).

Trilogy at Vistancia is also good, as is Raven Verrado

The Raven at Verrado is a great course, but boy, it's a hike from the Scottsdale area.

Lets see in my last 80 rounds or so 30-40 have been at Wekopa Saguaro with 5-10 on Cholla, and I hate playing the same course over and over, except Saguaro.

For me, Saguaro is all about the green complexes. Very seldom is there a simple easy putt, and even without knowing them well you can see from the fairway that there are better and worse places to put the ball in your shot to the green. You can back it up from there, since there is often a better place to put your tee ball for the next shot. It doesn't have to be a thinker's course, but it certainly can be.

Vista Verde is now Tegavah, and it is fantastic. One notch below We-ko-pa Saguaro.

Has the local housing filled in? I played it the first year it opened during the peak of the housing crash, and there were maybe 2 homes on the course. Did they build a clubhouse? The pro shop was in a trailer that first year.

My vote would be Saguaro by a substantial margin. I finally played Cholla this summer and while it has some stunning views it has far too many blind shots and, imo, is tricked up to a point that I would only play it occasionally. After that, Troon Pinnacle and Quintero would be my next choices. Curious to see what the TPC Stadium looks like after the renovation. I really enjoyed it as it is vastly different than most of the desert courses out there.

SunRidge Canyon, Eagle Mountain, Whirlwind, and Wildfire would be on my 2nd-tier list.

Longbow is also a nice course. However, it's too close to Falcon Field Airport, and the airplanes are a nuiance.

Happily for golfers, sadly for whoever owns it, still only 2 houses. No clubhouse, but who cares? No restrooms either, but I am happy not to pay for those.

As a course, and for the views, it is up there with any but Saguaro, and about 1/2 what the others are charging, regardless of when you play.

I agree with your second tier except for SunRidge. Years ago, that was a great course... final 5 or six holes are amazing, and the conditions of the rest were good. The last 2 or 3 times I played there, it was in deplorable shape. I know they ran into financial trouble and sold it in probably 2010? BUt it seemed to me that they were trying to juice as much cash out of it as possible without reinvesting in maintenance (last time I played there was probably March 2013, so it may have improved).

Played Sunridge recently. Conditions were fine. I was not impressed with the course overall - some pretty funky tricked up holes that I just don't think are well designed.

I think you'll find that everyone has their own favorites. While I like saguaro at wekopa, I think it's kind of over rated and over hyped, and there are a few holes out there that I don't really care for that much.

When I think of courses that I'd like to play day in day out, not purely destination tracks, my 3 favorite are southern dunes, ambiente, and believe it or not, Aguila. Sadly price keeps me away from dunes and ambiente until summer rates come. I also hate desert golf so keep that in mind haha

of the courses I've played (Desert Highlands, Desert Mountain - Chiricahua, Grayhawk (Talon), the Boulders courses, Silverleaf, SunRidge Canyon, Blackstone), I really like Desert Forest, which I played before its recent renovation.

Desert Forest is all about the golf, with a low-key membership and great atmosphere.
