Simulator golf can work, if priced right. The one near my house wants to charge $40 an hour for use of their hitting bays. A little pricey considering we live in Texas where we can play golf year round and the 18 hole course right behind it charges the same price for 18 holes of on a real course.

I've got the first official simulated round of the winter scheduled for tomorrow morning. A part of me wants to wear shorts and a tee shirt, but I don't think I'd survive the long walk from the door to the car/car to the 'course'. I'm shocked at how quickly the weather has turned. I played an outdoor round on Monday and the snow was falling yesterday. Wonky weather.

PD, what courses are you going to start off the sim season with?? How were the new shafts on Monday??

I'm excited to hit the new shafts in the simulator because I have a really good sense of my yardages in this booth. The irons felt really good in the real world. Difficult to gauge distances and dispersion as it was cold and windy. Save for the vibration dampening properties, they produced similar distances to the steel shafts that I had installed.

As for the course(s) . . . I've got 2 hours of time booked, and I'm a single, so I'm probably going to play 2, if not 3 different courses. I'm not certain which ones.

To the original question I'm going to say yes simulators are going to become more popular. Combine the fact that technology is improving resulting in realistic graphics and the increasing costs to maintain courses - simulators are a no brainer.

I currently live in Asia and golf is quickly increasing in popularity, but the cost to play a round on a real course is very high. Golf simulators are very popular here in Asia, as are driving ranges (no TopGolf yet but I promise it will be a hit when it gets here).

Whenever I have a good round playing with a local they will invariably ask me what my low round on a simulator is. I love golf because it allows me to be outside and go on a hike with a purpose. I hate going to the range, and I’ve never played a round on a simulator but am considering purchasing one for my house. Why because the price is relatively low – you can buy a low end system for just a few hundred dollars and it’s a better use of time than typing comments on the internet. Eventually I’m sure we’ll be able to network our rounds and play against friends at their homes like you can with other video game systems.

As a side note the only forums I have in my favorites are the Courses, Memberships and Travel and the Hickory, Persimmons and Classic Clubs so I'm probably not the best gauge to assess golf trends.
