How's your raw black SM5 holding up?

I'm undecisive on the color of SM5 wedges I want. I currently have spin milled in black nickel which shows some wear. I originally wanted the black nickel but the tour chrome looks very clean. I wanted to see how the sole and face look along with any bag chatter.

Maybe i just haven't used mine enough, but the finish is still in nearly perfect shape. There's one small splash mark on the face from a sandy ball but the leading edge, grooves, etc are still very black.

Mine have spots work in and the bottom is worn. Looks great. However, I toed one out in the rough and have a little ball-sized spot that ticks me off. This finish is not for the OCD

Lol. You're exactly right, the finish definitely isn't for the OCD.

I love the black finish and the worn look it gets over time. I have SM5 TVD's with black ion and the finish doesn't hold up well but I knew that going in. I think they look better with use personally and build up a nice patina. If you want your wedges to look close to the same after a year or two of use the black finish isn't the way to go.

I was skeptical about the black as well, however, the finish has held up very well after playing mine all season.

The wear concerned me after a fling with Cally MD's a few years ago. The SM5's wear is like a badge of honor

I take very good care of mine, I always clean it and keep a cover on it when not in use. The finish was holding up very well for me until a round about a month ago. I think I may have gotten a chemical on it, not sure, but I took the cover off and I had some rust spots on the face Very sad. Hasn't effected the club at all, but like previously mentioned, not for the OCD crowd.

I got the black finish and 'rawed' them at home. It can be done very easily and what you are left with is infinitely more durable, essentially as there is no finish. There are several threads about it on here.

All that said, if I were to get them again I would definitely go for the Tour Chrome.

I'm curious to see these pics too. Also I always wanted to see how the miura in black boron wears. They claim that the black finish doesn't wear but it "breaks in" nicely. But I'm sure not many people have them because they were limited editions. I've tried to google them before

yea I think tour chrome might be my choice. I can be OCD but I do know it shows character and of course after numerous of hits it will wear. I'm not trying to keep them mint and the same time get use out of them. just interested in how much wear shows on them with normal use.
