Who is playing blades?

Recommended Posts

why?
I was just curious as to which juniors have blades in the bag and why? With technology the way it is the ability to work the ball and control distance is available in a forged or cavity back iron with greatly enhanced forgiveness, most PGA Tour players don't even have blades in the bag anymore. I ask because i play blades but am close to getting some Ping I10 or G10 irons to make the game easier on myself.

I play blades, but I am also thinking about getting a cavity back set 5 iron to 9 iron (X20 Tour or Srixon 701 or some Pings).

I want to drop the 3 and 4 iron and replace them with hybrids and use a 588 RTG as my pitching wedge.

I even want to try a belly putter. Trying to make the game a little easier.

But everytime I try some new irons on the driving range I don't hit them so much better that it is worth for me to spend so much money on them. I want to test them on the course soon to see if my scoring improves.

Best wishes,

Nille

i use mp 32's... pretty forgiving for blades, very workable, best feeling irons ive ever hit... frankly i see no need to switch to something else... i perform best with my mizzys... when i find something that works better i'll use those... till then... i'll keep my mizzys

Put down another tick for the MP-32's for blades they are the best. I'm on a NZ index of 9.2 and was a 15 when I bought these 12 months ago. Along with an improved short game the MP-32's have made me a better ball striker and I swear by them.

Also I don't use hybrids as the 3 and 4 iron are so easy to hit.

Mp 32s almost are not quite fair...I think they are more forgiving than many players CBs...in fact if you look at the mizzy website 10 staffers have mp 32s or mp 67s and only 1 has the 60s....that looks like blades 10, CBs 1

ya thats true... i would be playing the mp 67's but they dont make them lefty ;) i think i might pick up the titleist zm forged though...

i love the feel, look and overall playability with blades. Theres almost no way i'd go back to a cb based on the look at address only. the only reason i have a cb 3 iron in the bag is cuz i let my buddy hit my original 3 iron on the range and he bent the shaft at the hosel (if you saw this dude swing, you'd know why and how that happened). i'm gonna be getting some x100's to put in my irons anyway and i didn't really care anyway... no cb's til i'm over 50...

I play the older mizuno mp33's. They are the same club as the mp100's. They are very forgiving and i hit them more consistently than my cavity backs.

I used to play the mp33s and now I've switched to the ping i10s. I bought the mizunos and thought I'd never go back. I tried a hundred different cavity backs through the years and never liked the "look" when I stood over the ball. The toplines were terribly fat and chunky looking.

Then, about two months ago, I decided I needed new irons and went shopping. after demoing a bunch of sets (mp-57s, TM tp, etc) I found the i10s.

I think, so far, the i10s play just like my blades. They feel very nice. (not the same, but definitely NOT inferior) And they give you just a little more forgiveness.

I can see how some people swear by their blades. I used to swear by my mizunos. But the i10s have really bridged the gap between clunky cavity back and bewitching blade.

then again, I only played one full round with my i10s and and then my wife decided to give birth to our first child... so who knows...

here I am in the backyard, swinging my shiny new clubs between changing diapers. ;)

I want to see if anyone agrees, I've switched to blades and ever since I can't go back because I feel like I'm just going to snaphook everything. If they made a larger cavity club that had ZERO offset I'd be all over it, any suggestions?

I agree. the SB-1s I ordered set up so perfect and easily. On certain days even my low offset 735 short irons felt like snap hook machines. The worst feeling is standing over a ball at address and thinking, "this feels like a hook, but I can't shake the feeling."

Also the thin topline, to me, feels like I can get the ball up in the air more easily... weight distribution and precise striking are what I see in a thin topline. AND the understated classic look of a blade. AND the high performing sole grinds. Fat soles feel like I have to sweep the ball like a 3 wood off the fairway, and I already sweep the ball, so the thin soles help. AND feel on partial swings, knock downs, stingers, chips, etc is outstanding--no rubber or cavities dulling the feeling.

i hit more shots REAL close with blades than i do CB's. I'll take a few more missed greens to get a few more tap in birdies. Id rather be short sided with an L wedge in hand than 40 feet with a putter.

cheers

The article about blades vs. cavity backs in the latest Golf Digest really confirmed my "honeymoon" results with my new blades. I really think I'm hitting the ball a little further with blades, but it's hard to confirm since it's only a small amount. Also I don't see my misses being worse than before... actually they may be straighter misses just because I really like the lack of offset, so my alignment and hand action are better. It's amazing how different all the newer blades perform. You just gotta spend some time doing some research.

I play Taylormade mb tp blades they rock. :clapping:

me too!

i started out when i was 15 with mp14s then tried RAC LT IIs and missed the feel of blades so i bought mp37s.. last year i played with 30s and enjoyed them too. now going on 21 ( guess im not a junior :) ) im with my rac TP mbs and enjoy the game even more!

im more of a feel golfer and need to know when i hit it poorly even if im sacrifcing a chance to make a bad shot a decent shot. its how i improve my game. if i was gonna go to a cavity it wouldnt be any bigger than ap2s.. and you can quote me on that !! ;)
