Depends how much money I have laying around, I can get a dozen of brand new ProV's or go to rockbottomgolf and get 3dz mint refinished balls for the ame price. Tournaments always get new balls from me, and depending on who i play with on saturday and sunday, i will use new ones as well. If i play during the week its usually used balls. Problem is that you can get some balls that are 6 months old or 2 years old

I almost always play with used pro v's (bought online or at sports authority for $15/dozen), but I got some new pro v's for christmas and used them recently. Honestly, I couldn't tell the difference between the used and new after the new ones had been knocked around for a few holes. Maybe I'm fooling myself because I really like pro v's but could never afford to pay $45/dozen, but I'm going to stick with used!

Does anyone know if refinished balls are legit? My brother got some refinished Nike Platinum's and they seemed kind of weird- they were completely repainted and the paint was flaking off after wedge shots. Also, it seemed like they were considerably shorter than the other non-refinished balls he was playing. I could be wrong, but they seemed kind of fishy to me.

i use a place ( no kidding) called bustinballs.com . i buy their nxt tours for about 50 cents a ball by the hundred and they ship for free. when i was first starting, i would lose balls all the time but i didn't want to play with junk so it was a good compromise. now i shoot in the 80's and don't lose balls very often, so that 100 goes a LONG way. when i don't like the way they look i grab the next 1/2 dozen and have at it and the last 6 go in the practice bag. i have played these directly against new ones of the same type and other ostensibly better balls. as far as the used nxt vs the new nxt went, they were identical. no difference at all. these balls are used but NOT refinshed. against others types some like the pro v1x were markedly different but not better or worse... just different. all the others were similar. some a bit longer or shorter off the tee and a little better or worse around the green. very clearly it pays to get one that suits your short game and sacrifice a few yards off the tee if thats the price. as for spending money on new.... they gave away new nikes and v1xs at the last tournament so i played them. score was w/in a strike or two of what i do with the used nxts.

for me the high quality used ( NOT refinished) beats out the percieved advantage of new and i have seen no hard evidence to support any notion of that percieved advantage.

I have used mint condition used and refinished balls. The mint used I find no noticable difference from the new. Refinished I found to get ratty looking real quick, with paint visibly peeling on some, can't say I noticed any other detriment other than looks.

I won't buy refinished again even though I only found cosmetic differences.

I have had a brand new out of the box V1x split in half the second time I hit it with a Driver. I have a few balls that I have used for 72 holes and they still look good and go good. I have pulled out balls that I am not sure where they came from and had them look good but just didn't have any pop in them.

I have been told that balls from water hazzards can absorb water and even a little bit will impact distance and even direction if the moisture settles inside the core... it seems to me like most balls today are all plastic, so I am not sure I believe it, but I sure have had balls that acted funny and this seems to be the only explanation... If you hit it 250 yards and you lose 10% thats 25 yards... ouch!

I always go with a new ball in competition or when there are a few fun $ on the line.

I feel the same about some "refurbished" proV's I bought at Target recently. The just seem "weird" like almost too white and possibly repainted.

I paid $21 doz. Did I get taken? I mean I can certainly use them as shag balls.

I always buy used golf balls on E-bay. Usually around 3 dozen at a time. Only buy from reputable sellers and only buy 'MINT' balls. Some might have a players mark but most of them you cant tell the difference from new. At a great discount.

How many times have you teed up a brand new ball and hit it in someones yard. Most of the mint balls are like that.
