I worked cart staff for 3 years at a pretty high end country club with a lot of wealthy members before eventually moving into the pro shop to work.. If I carried a wet rag with me and cleaned clubs when they showed up and left, maybe $60 a day and up to $100 on the weekends. With that being said, I worked with a couple attractive girls who did literally less than half the work I did for the members and they would rake in $100 a day, easily.

As a guy, you have to make effort and kiss a$$ and go above and beyond to earn your tips.
All the girls had to do is smile and they were getting $10 easily and probably her lunch paid for..

Thats just how it is....

You would be sickened to hear how much the girls working the beverage cart made on the daily.

I've worked at two different golf courses in ocean city md for the last two years. During the spring and fall we have package season which you can consider resort golf i guess. During this time on any given day you can make 80-200 dollars a day. In the summer its more like 50-100 dollars depending on the day.

On the opposite end of the spectrum there's the course I work at. Very prestigious but leaves a bit to be desired in the tip department. Splitting tips with 4 other guys, they're happy if they each get over 10 bucks at the end of the shift. I'm not saying the members aren't nice and friendly, far from it actually. The majority of them just don't tip.

Yeah there would be guys that I knew the life story of and how much money they actually had and those were the ones that tipped the least if at all.

Not saying they were in the wrong or that they HAVE to tip, thats probably how they have lots of money because they dont give it away lol. Dude had a HUGE Staff bag made out of OSTRICH LEATHER. Maybe got $10 out of him in the 3 years I worked there..

We didnt have to split tips, we pocketed everything we earned.

I dont know that it has much to do with the course, just mostly the people. Courses can develop tradition on tipping. Some members dont because the members that were there before them didnt, and vice versa.

12 PM Money Game "Geeze Bill, saw you gave the cart kid 10 bucks, what else is he doing for you?" Bahaha they all laugh,. Bill feels dumb, tips 2 bucks next time.
12 PM Money Game "Geeze Bill, you only gave the cart kid a buck?? he washed your clubs and everything tight wad!" Bahahaha they all laugh. Bill fels guilty and tips 5 bucks next time.

The members that I worked for all fed off of each other. They want to be cool to their friends just like high school kids do.

But for the plot twist, some rich guys are *****s and some are the nicest people on earth. Some "median income" guys give you the last dollar they have in their wallet and some look at you like you need to get a real job and make your own money.

Honestly, if you are courteous and do what you would want done for you, its out of your hands on how much you get tipped.

I worked as a bag/cart boy at a private club in the early 2000s, so this info is a little outdated maybe. I usually worked alone weekends from 2pm-closing, so most of the players finishing their rounds were couples/families, groups with guests, and random singles. Most weren't taking caddies that time of day (if they had a caddie/didn't ride I got nothing). I'd usually get about $50 in tips per day. There was one lady who'd usually give me $20 after her round (very unusual for this club), so on the few days she played I could get $70 total or more. The younger players (under 35 or so) would usually race up in their cart, yank their bag off, and run away giving me nothing before I could even get close.

Best I ever did in a day was 250 bucks. I was hustling and worked a 12 hour dqy. Cleaned clubs, picked people up in parking lot, put ice in their coolers (attached to carts), looked the other way when they put their own beer in the cooler, and generally kissed up. Super busy day. I was turning carts as fast as I could. Most of the time made around 25 bucks in a day...some nothing at all.

Interesting... and questionable people say there's a war against women. Go figure. :beach: Yep, for a babe I am likely to tip more.

I worked at a very nice course that members knew was a "non tipping" course. There weren't cart guys because of Caddies, and members would pay 80 a bag and some would tip on top of that, but as a valet, I always found that guest who weren't familiar with the club, or have always tipped at their home club were much more likely to tip because they thought they had to at such a nice course. Some days you would get a few 5's or 10's from guest and sometimes if it were all members you wouldn't get much.

Really Depends on the type of club you are at I guess but with a couple guys that know what they are doing at any decent club/resort, i think $10/hr in tips is the gauge. Above that you are doing a good job at a nice place and below that you should be looking to head somewhere else. With no freebies or funny business the club I'm at can see $700 a day brought in from 185ish players split 3-4 ways.

Best advice for the OP... don't worry about or expect tips. Just perform your duties above and beyond.
