Courses near Emory University (Atlanta, GA)

Anybody know any nice courses by Emory University or basically Atlanta area? I'm going down in a few weeks for a college visit.

 

Also if anyone has went to Emory, what is it like?

Your choices inside what we call the perimeter are limited. If you can identify an approx price point and a distance you are willing to drive, then I can give you some recommendations.

 

If you are willing to play a municipal course with very good greens, very good layout, but somewhat dry thin rolling fairways, then I recommend Mystery Valley which is owned by Dekalb County and is located right by Stone Mountain. Very well located bunkers are a nice feature of this course. Friendly staff and people. No home building on the course so the scenery is nice. Greens fees are under $50 including cart even on weekends. This would be within 8-10 miles of Emory.

 

There are several Atlanta Muni courses inside the perimeter and this will be an interesting experience. Not bad, but different. If you are willing to drive 30-50 miles which on a weekend is a fast drive around here on the fast moving highways, then you have dozens of great choices. Go to LMTT (last minute tee times) for rates, reviews, and availability. Be sure to use LMTT if you want to save a lot of money on most courses.

Stone Mountain Park has 2 good courses - Stonemont and Lakemont. Heading out east past Stone Mountain on Hwy 78 are Country Club of Gwinnett and Simmit Chase. Summit Chase is private but opens up tee times to the public thru LMTT.

 

After that, you'll need to drive some. But thats Atlanta.

 

The Atlanta city courses are about the worse.

 

There are 3 websites listing course reviews and info. LMTT is probably the best. There's also atlantagolfer.com and golfatlanta.com but there info is a little dated sometimes.

As far as Emory, its a great school but I'm about 25 years removed from the college experience so can't help you there. Knew people who went there and wished I could have.
