My attempt to switch to a premium ball

Suggestions/experience greatly needed!
So I just got back into golf last year and found this awesome site and now I would fall into the "addict" classification! Anyway, I played an e6 last year to help with the sidespin and loved it. Toward the end of the year I got some new wedges and really liked playing with spin around the green. This year I updated my wedges and it is time to update the ball and I need some help. I want to move to a premium ball to get all the spin I can around the green but the driver still likes to tail just a little bit on me so I need to find something that won't go to crazy off of the driver. I know the best thing is to get a sleeve of each and see which one works best for me but all I have in the area to shop is a small golf shop that doesn't really sell just sleeves and a Dick's Sporting Goods.

I guess I would like to know if you guys have any good starting points on which ball to try first. My swing speed is usually around 108 mph with a fairly consistent swing. I play to about an 11 handicap right now and got down around a 9 at the end of last season. I usually play about once a week and the greens on the course I play are fairly hard.

I saw the Golf Magazine Ball Test but only a handful were tested at a 105 ss and the spin data is for a full wedge shot which is great but I could get the e6 to pretty much stop dead on a full wedge shot. The pitches around the green are what I am wanting to just throw on the brakes and stop right where she lands but am not having too much luck with. I recently got a trial box of Nike One Platinum and it was great around the green but it spun a little much off the driver for me and I want to know if anyone knows a good ball to start the testing with. The test did kind of confuse me more than anything. it had the ProV1X spinning more and a softer cover than the ProV1 and the Zip and the NXT Tour spun more than the Callaway Tour ix?

The first NOP of the 2 ball trial pack I hit on the first tee box in the left edge of the fairway that borders the fifth fairway. The guy cutting the fairway on the fifth had to swerve over into the first fairway but he did manage to come over the ditch AND the terrace just far enough to slice my first premium ball I have tried out this year nearly in two!!! There was no way in the world he could have accidentally hit it. What a punk! Thats my luck though. Gotta love it.

Anyway.... anyone with similar swing speed have any more luck with one ball or another? Are they all pretty much the same? Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Are there any Golfsmiths in Alabama (where u r at?). Because they're selling TM TP Black and TM TP Red logo overruns ('07 models) for $19.99 per dozen... These are premium balls at half the cost! The Black is supposed to compare to the ProV1x, while the Red is closer to the ProV. Good luck in your search!

Kind of... It is a couple hours away. Didn't the 08 models switch? So 08 Red is like the ProV1x?

From what I've read on the internet & on posts in these forums, the TM TP '08 balls w/LDP compare to the Titleist premium balls the way I had describe on my earlier post.

I bought 1 dz. each of the TM TP (red & the black) logo overruns, but I'm not good enough to determine the difference & have not used them yet, as I'm trying to use up my Titleist NXT Tour & Extreme supply first.

you don't like the ProV1x? I just recently started using it, from using the Callaway HX Tour all last year. Only reason I started using it was because someone gave me a dozen to try, and now it works awesome for me. I do want to try the new Callaway Tour ix though, very curious...

As bad as I hate to admit it, I have never really played it. I will put it on the list of balls to try out though. I see it come up as pretty much the standard for all other balls to be compared to.

Would you guys put the e5+ in this category? How does it do around the green? Not on full wedge shots but on chips and pitches.

In comment about which ball to play, the Bridgestone ball is one of the best. I play the B330s and my swing speed is 112 and find it to be a great ball. According to ball testing centers, in order to compress the B330, Pro vx, your swing speed should be 114 or above. I know some players that have slower swing speeds and play those balls and love them for the fact the spin rate is low. I have played the TM tp and love it. I know there are Edwin Watt stores in Alabama and sell balls in sleeves. Just try different sleeves in different conditions. If you can find a Bridgestone ball fitting day youll be suprised.
