Probably whatever Titleist produced to replace the prov1

Extremely hard logic to argue with. While I personally really like the current and new offerings from Callaway, Titleist will always have a the market for balls. They are "the ball company". When every generation in your family grows up playing Titleists, you know you have a strong following.

Currently the crop of balls out there is amazing, with Callaway, Titleist, Srixon, Bridgestone, TM, and Nike making products that are damn near interchangeable. You could take a die hard PV1 player and give him a top offering from any ball manufacturer and they would be happy, the quality is that good across the board, but I do not forsee any manufacturer taking away Titleist's market hold, it's just too large.

They have seen quite a few better players going to Callaway; NIke;TM and Srixon for a comparable or better ball. To answer the question of who would take over # 1? My guess would be callaway with counts and Nike with wins due to more parity n ball use. That will not happen though because Titleist makes really good balls and they have the most resources dedicated to Tour Ball usage...

The Pro V1 will probably not be in exsistence after 2008...

Just if more people would give them a chance I think the Srixon lineup of golfballs would dominate. I personally love the Z-URS. The durability is awesome and spinwise it´s up there with the pro V1 line. I have heard nothing but good things about all other Srixon balls, that also includes the "cheaper" ones such as AD333 and SOFT FEEL.

Titleist may be losing some ground on tour but in the amateur game it is still streets ahead of the opposition. Our local shops sell a few Srixon, TM and Cally but the ProV1 is so far in front the opposition is negligible. Bridgestone and Nike are dead in my area, haven't seen B330s in any shop for a good 18 months and NOP/NOB are on offer half price and still not moving.

here is some bad news about the AD333 - it sucks

Not according to the 1000's of people that use it as their gamer.

I use that ball. If you're using a Pro V, you're not using this ball. If they stopped making this ball, it wouldn't affect me. I only play the ones I find in the woods.

TP Red for the Pros, and Callaway/Nike would peel off a lot. That's marketing muscle though. Bridgestones and Srixons are just as good, if not better too. A lot of people would say, "Hey, if there was any ball better than Titleist, every pro would play it, because every advantage is needed." But think of this...Titleist pays anywhere from $2,500-5,000 to unknowns, to play their ball in the tourney...The question isn't, "Is there a better ball?", the question is..."Is it better-enough to pull a player away from the money to pay all their bills (incl. caddy) if they don't make the cut?" No. That's why they don't change. The margin, not the reality.

the die hards here understand the dilemma between callaway and titleist. the regular weekend golfer has no idea what is happening with the litigation. whether titleist loses or not , they will come out with a new ball anyway and the current crop of weekenders will jump to that ball....as will the the amateur and pro players. most titleist players are die hard......they aren't switching.

titleist will still be the #1 ball in golf. if i had to switch.....bridgestone B330.

same could be applied to the +1 driver in golf.

it is all about the $$$. business is business. but what about the amateurs? i realize the college kids get free equipment...but what about the competitive life amateur? and the weekend sheople? titleist has a strong hold....and not because i have to pay my caddy.

Actually, even Target is selling B330s these days. Don't see many of them moving off the shelves, though! That being said, I really like them, although they have a much "harder" feel than the top quality balls from other manufacturers.

I think the ProV1 is done for and that the product cycle is running on vapors. One, they've made it so freaking expensive. Two, there are a great number of fantastic balls which cost less. Three, I think people are fed up with the marketing of the prov1. By marketing, I mean, its too obvious to see the connection between the price of the ball and all the dumb commercials persuading people they've bought the "best" ball ever made. The market is competitive, all markets clear. They make a great ball, others now make balls just as good. The number one ball on tour pitch has just gotten old, and feels like a soviet eara slogan. “In Soviet Union, is only one ball, best ball in all world”

That any one product can reign supreme for so long in a marketplace driven by new technology, competition, and change, is a testament to how good a product it is, but if they push it too much harder, their going to turn their VW bug, into a trabbant!

New Callaway I series most likely

Same for me, I found one of these iseries balls and played 27 holes with it before I dunked it in a lake, great ball. I still like the Prov1X ball though...

on point #3, that may be what you feel or want to be true...but it's simply not the case. ask anyone who works in golf retail and they'll tell you the same.

Please elaborate. And I'll explain a bit too as I did a poor job of making my third point. Titelist's marketing campaign for the ProV1 is that it is the number one ball on tour. I believe that is their slogan, and clearly all of their adds are dedicated to that point. That is it's unique selling principal; more tour players use it. By way of comparison the Nike Platinum spots describe its four layers and performance. Yes, they do show Tiger, but the spot is clearly about the ball, not who on uses it. Nike may elude to their tour players but the spot is about the ball.

In other words, other companies like Nike, Cally and Bridgestone focus on the ball while titleist focuses on the tour. The tone of the Titelist commercials has worn thin for me. How many people out there actually have a tour swing, or will benefit from the marginal difference between a $ 40.00 Bridgestone when compared to a $ 45 prov1? The argument to explain the difference would be technical, boring and fail to compel, I suspect. So to justify the difference they show the bright smiling tour faces and say their ball is the MOSTEST on tour, which it is, but like all campaigns is wearing thin.

Furthermore, I suspect that if the Prov1 was not number one on tour, it would hurt the entire product line sales wise. IMHO the NXT is not nearly as nice as the other mid-range three piece balls. But I'm not the kind of guy who drive a ford and pretend they are Lincolns. (heck neither is as nice as my Honda, which rides on Bridgestone by the way)

yeah, the ProV1 is "done for"........sure.

and yeah, i'm probably going to stop playing my favorite golf ball because i'm sick of their commercials... actually, i'm not even sick of their commercials (i could care less either way...all commercials suck)
