What can $2000 get me in Seattle area?

Hi everyone,

I'm new to the forums after a few months of using the site for local knowledge... figured it was time I started contributing.

But with that said, here's my delimma. I've got about $2 grand to spend on some type of all-you-can-play membership for the year. I've seen the Oki Golf winter cards, various golf/CCs (way out of my price range), etc. but haven't found anything within a reasonable driving distance from Seattle.

The best fit I found is Newcastle's practice facility for $1600/yr. The good: it includes grass tees half the year. The bad: no actual course time.

Does anyone know a course within ~15mi of Seattle/Bellevue with an all-you-can-play membership under $2500? Or is that a pipe dream? Other suggestions?

Thanks!

Mill Creek or Everett CC's are pretty decently priced from what I remember. Used to play with the asst pro's from each and they would tell me to join all the time under the jr corp membership plan. Something like $250/month after initiation dues.

Other than that you're not going to find any private clubs for any cheaper here. There are discount memberships like the Oki card or RMG (Ryan Moore Golf grp) that you can purchase which come w/ a few free rnds and a discount afterwards. I believe Gold Mtn runs a deal in the offseason similar to RMG for a monthly due of say $100 for unlimited access to courses in the network.

I'm not crazy about Oakbrook (I don't know who they had to con to get the WSGA Mid-Am there...), but that does seem like a respectable avenue.

edit

Here's the deal... http://rmgclub.com/membershiplevels/ it looks like they have several different options.

I know this is almost twice as you have budgeted, but you can have chambers bay for a year for $3700 or $2500 for the off season.

There are a few other clubs priced similar to places like Mill Creek and Everett.

Check out Fairwood country club in renton its a really nice "affordable" club. Course has fantastic greens and is tree lined with OB on every hole.

Twin lakes in federal way is a nice club as well but that's not within 15-20mins of Seattle, neither are Everett and Mill Creek for that matter.

The best bet would probably be Glen Acres in burien, as long as you ain't scurred of the neighborhoods in the area. Membership is the cheapest youll find and its less than 10 minutes from downtown. Its only 9 holes but its a challenging 9 with elevated greens on nearly every hole that are some of the slickest in the area. Grass range and practice area and the view from the first tee can't be beat.

+1 for Glen Acres. Right now their website shows $1000 initiation and under $300/month for an individual. Still over your budget, but it's a private club.

Super convenient location. It's a 9 hole track that makes you hit almost every club in the bag. Course rating is way too low for the true difficulty of the course. Small sloped greens that get lightning fast in the summer. Two (small) practice greens. The range is small, but has three sections to hit from, one of which has grass available nearly year-round.

Glen Acres IS directly under the flight path to SeaTac, but you start to barely notice the noise after playing there a few times.

Here's a couple of pictures I had on my computer:

An Oki Platinum Card is a great deal, could get you cheaper golf at any of the Oki courses around, as well as a free round (for an expensive course like Newcastle maybe?)

I agree with those who said glen acres. I'm not a member but have played there a couple times, those greens are crazy hard. Especially in the summer, holding a downhill putt or chip is nearly impossible.

Solid layout, challenging, and does have a very small grass range.

Also moving to Seattle, wanna be around younger professionals (so I assume downtown) but also want to join a club... Any help from a resident would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Travis. Certain Seattle neighborhoods that are popular with young professionals are Capitol Hill, Belltown and Ballard. However, be advised that Seattle traffic is the 4th worst in the nation which is going to hamper your ability to play golf on work days because of the congestion (Ballard is the worst). Another option is downtown Bellevue which will be a totally different experience (upscale and safe but not much nightlife).

Most of the good golf is a 30-60 minute drive from Seattle downtown. Which side of Lake Washington will you be working in?

Fairwood sucks I'm not even going to bother to elaborate.

Please...I haven't played there for 7yrs or so but I thought it was in great shape and had fast greens...it's short, though.

Thanks for the reply... I've pretty much come to grips that I will not be able to play on the weekday anyway (sales life) and have decided to forgo even joining a club. I want to live downtown just so I can meet people but may move out to the burbs after a year or so if I decide I want to save some money on rent.

I'm not trying to pick a fight but # of posts on a forum doesn't mean anything (I only have 229 posts but I've been on the site since 2005). Though, I'd like you to elaborate on Fairwood...I haven't played there in a few years.

Hey everybody, old thread I know, but I have a few questions and thought maybe this could get going again. I play at least once a week, call that $300/month easy once you figure in beer/food/booze but would like to play more ie membership. Anyone have any thoughts on Rainier G&CC? It's super convenient for me.
Rainier is nice. Certainly not the best private... but there are worse. It's not very long.

I'd be pretty surprised if you could get out for $300 a month after everything at Rainier. Have you looked into the details? .

Rainer is good choice and add in it's close by, it's worth looking into. Slick greens, narrow fairways and a fair layout. Might be a bit wet and muddy in the off season if they have not been doing a sand program.

Some have mentioned Oakbrook and that is a great choice also, IF the condition is up to par and if the play is not to much because of the cheap rates.

I doubt any 18 hole CC you will be under $300 for everything...that's a tough one.

Any idea on what Inglewood runs? Live near the area, and played the course and was in love with it. And that was in a downpour that left me soaked!
