You guys got to stop this. I've got the "itch" this morning. The itch that usually doesn't stop until I pickup another set of irons. Lol. Thinking about heading out and hitting the used racks at my 3 favorite haunt. Agh. ( palms face in disgust )

I am going to the range in a little bit. Mostly I have just been putting and chipping through my rib injury, I hit about 50 7 irons last week and was a little sore...I was planning on spending my usual 2 hours short gaming it, but this thread really has me wanting to hit a small bucket of irons. I think I am going to.

I know the Aussie Blade ship sailed already, but I'll just chime in for a moment...

Biggie, the MCT-97 model were cast, and done by Maltby. Then the 99 Aussie Blades were cast nickel, the same process used for the Maxfli Revolution irons.

Before that, the Aussie Blades were forged, going back to the first models in the 70s (IIRC)

A few from my collection

I went from the s3 pros to the mp 69s. I actually preferred the head shape of the s3 pros in the scoring irons (much more compact), and they felt great.

Anyone ever play a blade combo brand set?

It's hard for me to not wear the S3 pro slap out, there such a great iron. There just so pretty!

I hit these in a net at pga sup store by my house next to an ap2. Not even close. I did not like them as much as the mp4, but that was just based on feel in a net. The heads looked great, feel was good, really solid clubs. I would totally grab a set in a few years when they can be had for $175 or so. I kinda want a set like that or RAC MB.

I bought these for not much more. I don't remember, but I think around 240 I made an offer.

Probably cause there shafted a little weird. Kbs tour stiff pw-7 reg in 5-6 and I got 2 Monaco prototype shafts in stiff, for the 3-4 one being installed. It kind of works to, the 3 iron is unbelievable off the tee.

This don't bother me a bit

My list of blades isn't too impressive anymore, decided I didn't need to have all those sets.

Vibration Matched Golden Rams
TW276 Frequency Matched Golden Rams
Ram TG-898 Tour Grinds
Wood Brothers blades
Mizuno MS-11
Wilson Staff FG17 (incomplete set)
Wilson Staff 78 Tour Blades
MacGregor Muirfields
Tommy Armour 986 Tours (if you hate offset, check these out, they may actually be onset)
Purefit 1020 blades
Haig Ultras (a beat up set someone wanted to get rid of, threw them in when I was buying something else)
Powerbilt 2276 Scotch Blades (loaned to a friend)

The 986 Tours and Purefits are head-only, except for one or two of the clubheads in each set being used with a test shaft.

jeff if you ever run across a titleist ZB set take a look...its a progressive combo set where the 3 4 5 iron are CB and they are long heel to toe...the 6 iron is an almost hybrid cb and mb and then 7 8 9 pw are MB...they are all a bit longer heel to toe and a slightly wider sole...Very underated setup ..I played them 3 summers ago and really shouldn't have sold them... I should have reshafted and kept....

I had a set of ZB's 2-PW. I feel the exact same way! I have absolutely no idea why I got rid of them!

Mid single digit. . . . MP-4s, and about to add a set of MP-64s-- just because Mizuno thinks the MP-15s are replacement for the 64s.

Not.

I went 32-67-68-69 before the 4s.

I enjoy the feel and added control that seems to disappear every time I try something like AP-2s. S55, on the other hand, could work well for me.
Couldn't agree more. I've thought about picking up some 64's as well. The 15's are not even close, in any category. IMHO. I have tested the S55 ad nauseam and I always come away impressed, just can't pull the trigger...

Also, Bigmean thanks for the pics of your raw set. They look amazing. I live coastal in San Diego county and we aren't necessarily humid, but we do get the ocean breeze. I worry about having raw irons in that environment. Especially as my primary set. I might go down this path after I pick up another set. Looks too good not to do at some point.

One last point, I love the premise of this thread. I don't post much because these threads get ugly quick. Great idea and execution. Well done sir.

Those cobras are sick tamale, those are the kind of cbs I find sexy.

NR, you guys all make me feel so much better about having like 6 sets of irons, and you pre apologize for not having an impressive list, HA!. I need to show my wife old players list :). HOing blades is fun and I just love that you can get what essentially is a $850 set today for $150. As far as I am concerned, the more people shun blades the better for us collector HO's.

Just got back from range. Brought only my miura 5,7,9. I have neglected them a little since I haven't been able to hit much, and the times I have tested my injury recently I wanted to play with my new toys, my macs, and my kyoei cbs that I hand ground and built. It isn't like I forgot in my mind, but your body kinda forgets. I have said it 100 times on here, I could care less what something costs or care about name brands, and I would be the first to say over rated or sell them while they are worth what I paid if they were only 10% better than my 14s, but there is no doubt about it, they really are the mother%#*%ing truth.

Hit the 7 and 9 great after 10 balls of rust release and struggled with the 5 a bit, but I have hit less than 120 balls since September so I have a lot of muscle memory to get back. Plus the golf center by me is so heavily played, it is literally like 1/8" of grass on sand/dirt, you almost need to hit shots like its is from a fairway bunker....really.

I do have a question for you guys since a lot of you are probably better ball movers. I hit shots I call drades and fraws, I don't know what causes it, and I hit a good amount of drades today. Basically it is a good shot, but a drade(the one I hit most) starts off like a ball that is drawing on a path to be say 7 yards left of target, than just at the apex when it starts to fall, comes down hard right back at the target and falls that way all the way down to end up maybe 2/3 yards left of target when it lands. I hit the same thing with a fade pattern that falls back hard left sometimes too. I have always hit these at random since I was a kid and I have no idea what causes it. Since it is a good shot I never cared, but I am curious as to how that happens.

I felt that I lost some feedback from the Adams and the distances never seemed consistent. I could hit some lasers that would carry 10yards farther then I anticipated, like flyers from the fairway.

I love the "feel" of a small headed club during transition, larger faced clubs always felt like swinging a pancake spatula attached to an alignment stick to me. So the heel to toe length on the new irons is noticeably short then the VIPs and Cleveland's.

He has pics of them somewhere on here, they are pretty cool...(edit, posted simultaneously with above, I was referencing NR and the wood bros)

The scratches are sick. I live the mp14/29 muscle cut toward the toe.

Also, I don't know when or how, but I would like to try the Scott blades to see that is about.

Nice bag! That bag speaks single digit handicap.

Luke Donald says the mp32 is his favorite mizuno iron, so I can't argue with him.

As bad as I would like a set of Miura mb001's or Miura limited edition black, I'd probably hunt down a set of those 32's to suffice the itch.

They're not great, I was using my Razr/M phone and I don't have a steady hand.

side note: Wood Bros also made a forged CB as a companion to these, and there's a Kool Kat CB I've seen on fleabay, also

A comment on Mizuno blades....

It would seem they hit the ball fairly high. I have MS-11s, when I first got them, I noticed I was hitting them higher than the same numbered Vibration Matched Golden Ram iron, in spite of the MS-11s being almost a club stronger lofted (same as MP-29 lofts, I had my Rams set with FG-17 lofts).

The fabled MP-33s hit the ball higher for me. The MP-32s hit the ball even higher yet.

It's one of the reasons I've got a love/hate with that set.

For those with trajectory issues, one must pay attention to this aspect. If you're a low ball hitter, you're in good shape. :)

I grew up with blades, and these days I'm back to playing Persimmon too. I predominantly play traditional tracks and shoot in the high 70's - low 80's. I'm very much in the heavy & flat camp. I've always loved my 80's gear and can't get enough of the Spalding blades from that era. More recently I've fallen in love with the early Mac's and currently play 63 MT CF4000 M1's. Of course there a few Hogan sets floating about too....
I have little interest in today's clubs, however if my hand was forced to buy a modern set I'd be going Japanese or have DW build me a set of M85's..... A guy can dream can't he?

Isn't flight like that from the bigger muscle? My mp14s are pretty flat back, and they stay low/mid for me with dgs300 and my Miuras are also flat back and stay down with nippon 1150s with a 92 or so mph 6 iron.

I asked about the back of blades and MBs and weight distribution and how that really effects the flight and the consensus was that pretty much it doesn't matter that much. I would guess your older rams and others that stay down are more a flat back than an MB?

It was interesting a while back when Tom Wishon chimed in on a blades vs cb thread and stated that mb's often have a lower COG than cb's. This translates into a higher flight with many musclebacks. That has been my experience. Blades like the mp33's already mentioned and my snake eyes 600 b both have a high trajectory. Plenty of others I could add to the list as well.
I thought that was very interesting about the COG and runs contrary to what appears to be the common consensus around here.

It sounds like you now and then overpower the shaft. I'm no expert, I would imagine a video would help.

Hmmmm. That is interesting, I have never heard of that....I don't swing hard, always played s shafts, I have a 92/93 mph 6 iron, which I think is right in the middle of stiff category.

I do have a late release with a lot of lag, so that speed all comes at the end through impact. I know my swing looks more unassuming speed wise than it really is at the ball from that.

Partially agree...The MP32s launch the ball quite high, but being blades they can be flighted any way you want really...

I'm a 5 handicap that loves the Mp32's...probably one of the best feeling clubs I've ever hit.

I found a set in pristine condition this autumn and haven't looked at others irons since.

Nice

I went with the 60 when those came out. I didn't think I was good enough to play the 32 coming from mx-23 I really enjoyed. Those were the shizzle. Still are

There just so pretty!
s3 pros are one of my favs....I love this club...p-7 mb 3-6 cb...great set and spectacular feel
