How does this ball compare to the older tour version Wilson ball? I think that ball was called the Tx4 or something like that. The ball ballooned on a lot of guys, but being a low ball hitter I found it to my liking, especially for the price. You were getting a urethane covered ball with great green-side control for about a $10 discount to the usual tour caliber balls.

I have never played the TX4 but the FG tour is as good as the pro v1,i actually tested the pro v1 and the FG tour side by side for 54 holes last year and the FG tour was a tad longer off the tee, felt better off of everything, was much more durable. The pro v1 had a little more spin on chips but, spin was very close to the same on full wedges and full irons.

The old Tx4 ball was very clicky off the putter for me and the new FG Tour is one of the softest feeling balls on the market. I am a low ball hitter and I have a medium launch with this ball so it will fly a bit higher than say a Srixon Z-STAR X or Pro V1X...but it is designed to. Several people whom have hit this ball rate it along side the Penta.

If you are using U grooves, you have a good possibility of shredding this ball up, but if you are playing CoC grooves, it will hold up very good and has tons of spin when you need it. Right now, you can find them for a steal on eBay or RBG for about $20-$26 per dozen.

I found an FG-Tour in very nice shape a few weeks ago and played it for one round. I liked it. My opinion probably counts for not much since I am a single digit wannabee, driver swing speed maybe into the low 90's on a good day (drives carry maybe 190 to 210 yds, sometimes more, often less when faced with a long carry, ha ha).

My current favorite is Nike One Vapor Speed. Tried the Bridgestone e5 but didn't like the way it felt off my putter -- otherwise pretty good distance and better stopping on the green than most two piece balls. I have tried to like the ProV1x, but I lose too much distance (can't compress it enough, I presume).

After playing the round with the FG-Tour I went and looked up the specs on it and was surprised because I would have thought that it was a bit "too much ball" for me just based on the description and specs. I got better distance than the ProV1x and better spin than the Vapor Speed or e5.

So, here I am, kinda not the market the FG-Tour is aimed at, but still saying heck, this is a pretty nice ball for even an old duffer like me.

ps, I watch for opinions on anything related to Wilson Staff golf stuff. I am a big fan of their older blades and have a collection of most sets between 1960 and 1990.

Interesting. I still have several dozen of the Callaway i(s) in the golf locker since I've been taking advantage of the buy 2-get 1 free promotion they are running, but I may have to pick up a dozen and see what this ball does for me.

Since I only buy engine oil at Walmart I usually look at there golf balls and I think they have them but I don't remember the price.I buy pro v1x from the pro at the course I play and cannot find a better deal.. he sells me prov1x or pro vs for 40 bucks total and waves the green fees so I get the balls for less than 20 bucks a dozen..

One of the best balls out there. Even better when you factor in cost. It's basically a ProV at a fraction of the cost. It spins where you want it and not where you don't.

These Wilson balls are the real deal. A buddy of mine switched from the ProV1 to these and when I started laughing at him he gave me a sleeve.
That shut me up real quick. GREAT ball. Long, super soft feel, and good spin. Took me a little while to get used to it when putting because it felt SO soft, but I eventually got it.
I bought a dozen of the Wilson DUO's for a winter ball. I can't believe how good they are for the money.
BTW, I usually play Bridgestone 330S's in the summer and 330RXS's in the winter. The Wilson Tour actually feels softer than the RXS but is (at least) as long as the 330S and ProV1x.
I'm a believer now.

The best part is, when I hit one in the woods and go in looking for it, I yell in my best Tom Hanks voice................WILSON!!!!

Switched to the FG Tour last year. I find it performs exactly like the ProV-1 for me with the exception that it flies slightly higher off the driver. I'm a medium to low ball hitter so this is perfect for me.
Holds up well to the grooves, rarely ever get a good scuff from the club face.
Good price, great performance, tough to beat!

Best ball I have ever put a golf club on...period. I tested them side by side with 8 other tour balls and the results were eye opening. I was hitting little green side chips from the rough with a 64 degree wedge from 30 feet and all of the other balls where hitting checking and rolling out 4 or 5 feet. All of them...except for the FG Tour X. The FG Tour X was literally hit and stick in place. I noticed that this was carried on through the entire bag where I was able to hit 3 irons and 4 woods into greens and the ball was no more than 5 feet from it's pitch mark. I will note that both Pro V balls were in the test for clarity. I had never seen a ball do that from that close to the green and throughout the entire bag. I put the ball on trackman with all of my clubs and found them to be providing just the right amount of spin with every club in the bag.

They are soft off the putter but I prefer that feel and my spin with driver was in perfect also. All in all it was the best performing ball I have ever hit and so I bought 40 dozen at $17.98 apiece and I'm glad that I did because they stopped making the ball the very next year and only make a FG Tour now that is a happy medium between the FG Tour and FG Tour X but not quite as good as the FG Tour X in my opinion. You simply can't beat the combo of performance and price of the FG Tour / FG Tour X. With patience they can be had for less than 22 dollars per dozen or as low a $18.00 and no other tour ball can be had for that price.

The only gripe that I can have is that they are not the best wind ball, but that is because they spin the proper amount, and that means that they spin too much in windy conditions so I do tend to put them away in the windy season here in the middle east and play a lower spinning ball, but that is the only negative that I can gather from playing this ball head to head against all the major manufacturers tour ball. Great ball and well worth testing them out no doubt.
