Is Lumber disc injury person still ok to play golf?

I got hurt in July and mostly out for football and basketball for a long time.

Im in high school with lumber disc dehydrate, protrude.

Is it still suitable to play golf. I might not go for high competition but spend time playing in spring season.

I herniated L5-S1 three years ago and I'm fully recovered. I was 51. In researching the recovery prospects it appears that the people with long term problems are the ones who injure a disc young. Absolutely be conservative in your return to normal athletic activity. I understand you're young and want to get on with things, but read the stories yourself of people who've dealt with chronic pain for twenty or thirty years. A lost season of sports is nothing compared to decades of chronic pain. Confer with your health professional, don't cheat yourself on your physical therapy and do your core work regiously. With no more information, I recommend you get with a neurosurgeon and see what he has to say after looking at your MRI's. It might be possible to fix your back before you get into the chronic pain cycle, particularly at your age. Good luck with whatever approach you take.

I played for 7 months until I had my surgeries

Depends on the severity of the injury and what the docs say (a neurosurgeon preferably)

I agree, see a neurosurgeon and get his advice; it doesn't mean that you will need surgery or even thinking about it. They can be the best source of information for your prognosis and what you should avoid. If you tell me where you live, I may be able to refer you to someone in that area.

I have had bulging discs for years, doctors have told me you are not ready for surgery but the pain is chronic. I just recently found some relief with the help of a yoga instructor who gave me a personalized set of exercises and stretches that are helping me maintain a quality of life. I have not played much golf since I started this program so we will see how it goes. One thing for sure is to swing in a manner that relieves stress on the lower back, for many years I had sort of an old school reverse C swing, been working on swinging in ways that lower the stress on the spine, but old habits are hard to break.

At this point I know I will never swing like I did when I was young, but finding a way to play at least to a certain level and enjoy time with friends is the main goal.

If you are experiencing pain from a back injury, you will most likely unconsciously compensate in your swing. I had herniated L4 and 5 discs with sciatica 24/7 some years ago. I went 18 months doing conservative treatment to no avail. I had to quit golf, but strangely was able to play tennis during that stretch. I finally was told I needed surgery, which I had, and when I was over the operation, I went back to tennis, and quickly realized I had completely screwed up my mechanics while hurt. When I returned to golf about five years ago, it was almost like starting over. The good news is I am pain free and hitting the ball better than I ever used to. Every person is different, but be careful with your back. Better to give it up until you are well than to screw up your back for life.

I ignored my back pain and tried to play through it for a long time. Eventually found myself on the operating room table getting an L4-S1 fusion. My 2 cents: you're playing with dynamite and don't want to light that fuse. If your body hurts it's telling you something. Speak to a doctor and get healthy through physical therapy or whatever means he presribes. [b]You do not want back surgery.[/b]

30 years of working in medicine---please listen to all of the above posts. Everyone is exactly right of the correct course you need to take. I have known of many patients that are "crippled" up (limited mobility), due to old injuries. Yet they are gratefull because they do not have any pain with their condition. Yet there are hundreds with total mobility & chronic pain. They would trade in a heartbeat with the ones that have limited mobility without pain. Listen to what the medical professionals tell you & please ask any question that you have no matter how dumb you think it might be. Hopefully you already have a neurologist that you have been seeing. Ask him about it before doing anything. Back issues are one thing that will definitely bite you later in life, and many times not so later in life. Hoot151 is right about back surgery, it is a total crap shoot on results being better or worse.
