I'm on my last sleeve of Pro V1's, change or no?

Hi guys, this is my first post so hello everyone. I'm a 7hcp, with a driver SS of 117 to 122. I've been playing Pro v1's for the last couple of years and really haven't given anything else a try. I have a lower than average ball flight so a ball that gives a slightly higher trajectory is somewhat important, and I love to spin the hell out of the ball around the greens. More distance would be great but low side spin off the driver is probably better. I've been thinking Pro v1x, but I've been seeing a lot of people on here that like the Taylor Made and new callaways. I dunno, I just wanted to get some opinions from you guys, thanks.

I tried the TM TP Black this past weekend and was really happy with the way it performed. The black is comparable to the V1x and won't spin as much as the TP Red or ProV.

I didn't realize that. I figured that since TM promotes the Red for high spin players and the Black for low spin players that the red would spin more.

 

BTW, for the OP looking for a higher ballflight, the Black produces a higher ballflight than the Red (or at least TM claims that it does).

the reason TM states that the red is for high spin players is that most high spin palyers want less spin. It sounds confusing i know but i am a high spin player always looking to lower spin so i know where TM are coming from.

 

The fact that the red is lower launching than the black also confirms that it is lower spin ie, more spin more height.

To the original poster, welcome. There are many great balls out there but notice that every ball on the market is compared with the ProV1. I played Callaway HX Tour for a while, its a great ball. But when I went back to the ProV1 I realized why it sets the benchmark. There might be longer balls off the tee and there might be balls that spin more into the green but the ProV1 seems to have that perfect balance. I would stick with the gold standard.

By coincidence, I was just looking at the numbers published by the Golf Magazine.

 

Pro V1x - 12,299

TaylorMade TP Black - 12,062

Pro V1 - 11,914

TaylorMade TP Red - 11,872

 

I typically like more spin too. But I like softer feel also. I'm trying to decide which TaylorMade to try. For me, the Pro V1 spins more than the Pro V1x. Because of feel, I think I should try the TP Red.

Well said. I have tried all the different balls on the market, including the new LDP Red which I thought was a really good ball, but once I go back to the ProV1x I remember why I used it in the first place. I must admit that the LDP Red is the closest I've come to switching in a long time.
