Lowest spinning Tour Ball for the Driver?

What is the lowest spinning Tour Ball for a driver?

I have tried Prov1X, callaway IX, however my best results with a driver have been with a Callaway Big Bertha. The Big Bertha doesn't seem to spin very much with the driver.(The downside is of course it doesn't spin that well with wedges.)

I am happy using a tour ball for all my other clubs in the bag, its just the driver.

Any suggestions?

Try the Wilson Tx4 tour or the Tx4 Pro (updated version). Tx4 Tour is my new ball for sure, coming from ProVx since its introduction.

Not sure about tour balls, but you may consider splitting the difference between the Tour ix (3 or 4 piece Hi Spin) and an the Big Bertha (2-piece distance ball). If you like Callaway, try the HX Hot Bite, it's somewhere in the middle between the two balls you mentioned. Or Top-Flite Gamer (owned by Cally)

or the Titleist NXT Tour, or Wilson Staff Zip or a number of others (Bridgestone e5 or e6)... etc.

may want to check out the nike one black, not as much green side control as many of the other "tour balls" but straight and deep off the driver, Its what I reach for when I am having trouble controlling spin off the tee. Just a thought.

Agreed, definitely the lowest spinning ball of all the high end balls that I have tried. Long off the driver but sacrifice some spin around the green.

TM TP RED LDP. Definitely...there's no discussion needed. I'm the highest spinning player I've ever seen, and these things are great. I too have tried everything, and this is THE ball for high spin players. Nothing even compares if you're wanting a tour caliber ball.

Thanks for the suggestions guys.

Have purchased some sleeves of the TM Reds and Blacks LDP today and will be playing 9 holes tonight.

I may have misread this but apparently Blacks launch higher and spin less, whereas reds launch lower and spin marginally more with the driver. Unless I am missing something, I think TMs marketing is a little confusing.

backwards...Red spins less. The box clearly states that the Red is "for Higher Spin Players"--meaning that it doesn't give a spin boost to these players, rather it helps these players impart less spin on some shots. The Black is "for Lower Spin Players"--meaning that it helps those that spin the ball less by boosting their spin rates.

What you say is certainly true for the irons. It is marketed as taking the spin off iron and wedge shots.

However for the driver there was an article in Todaysgolfer UK sponsored by TaylorMade, giving away a years supply of TP LDP balls. In that article it said that as I mentioned in previous post that with the driver that: Black launches higher and spins less, whereas the red launches lower and spins more. Thats what caused my confusion.

I tried the LDP TP red last night and found I was still getting alot more spin with the Red compared to the BigBertha with the driver. However I liked the feel of control of the red for the short game.

I will try the Black tonight.

I guess I could drop down from a 10.5 to a 9.5 degree driver head but I prefer the versatility of a higher lofted driver.

I have now played a few rounds with the TM Black and red LDPs.

For irons and wedge play they are both great. For me the red is great for the shortgame.

Unfortunately with my driver I am still getting far too much spin with the TM balls.

The Callaway Big Bertha is miles better with the driver.

I am going to give the Callaway IX another go.

Todays golfer UK Ball test had a pro hitting the various tour balls. There is a considerable difference in spin(800 rpm) and launch angle(2.1 degrees) with the various tour balls tested.

Launch angle (driver) Spin(Driver)

Callaway IX 12.4 2275

Callaway I 12.7 2561

Pro V1 13.7 2942

Pro V1X 11.6 2681

TM Red 14.3 2972

TM Black 13.6 2864

Hogan Tour 10.8 2590

Nike Black 13.9 3042

Nike Platinum 12.9 2750

Srixon Z-urc 14.5 2226

Srixon Z-urs 13.7 2750

Wilson Tx4 pro 13.4 2840

It would appear Hogan, Callaway IX and pro v1x and lowest overall for spin and launch.

To me it looks like the lowest spin balls go; Srixon Z-urc, callaway ix, callaway i, hogen tour, v1x.

I am not to sure how accurate this table is has it has the nike black spinning more than the platinum.

The results were taken from a pros swing.

As far as I understand the Nike platinum is designed for Tiger. This ball is designed to spin as much as possible for a pro who swings like Tiger. I read a quote from Tiger(to Nike/Bridgestone) that was along the lines of make the ball spin as much as possible and leave it up to him to reduce the spin. The Nike Black is designed for your average decent golfer. I wouldn't entertain using a ball designed for Woods(Nike Platinum), neither should the remaining 99.999999% of golfers.
