If I understand what's happening here is that the 'red' fascia has a chip in it that activates the slope, whereas replacing it with the black front, it removes the slope functionality, making it conform? Do I have that right? Does the black fascia have a USB port also like the red one?

If the black does have a USB also, shouldn't be hard to re-program/re-flash that with the red 'program'. If not, I can see painting the red... black in color. "Look, I have the black shield, not the red one."

BTW, thanks for all the hard work this week and just being there covering this stuff!!!

No, the black does not have a port on the cover.

You can also switch the color of the display from black to vivid red. This is their answer to the Leupold 4xi. The Bushnell looks great! Light too.

Any word on when this will be coming to market? I love the option of having the slope feature when you want, especially at my hilly home course.

Edwin Watts is already showing them for sale online.

Odd because not even on Bushnell's website.

It always has confused me as to why companies make products that do not conform to the rules of golf. Then I am the a**hole who tells guys I refuse to play for money if they are going to cheat.

It is conforming with the black cap. I actually don't view using slope as cheating. If you play the same course over and over you pick up how many yards of elevation change are on each hole.

Caddies have this information, why can't we have it without a caddie? Speeds up play.

I don't own a rangefinder, but it wouldn't bother me in the least if my playing competitor used a rangefinder with slope. I just don't see how that is an advantage. Some gadget is going to tell the user it's 8 extra yds. because the approach shot is uphill? I assume that 8 yds. is calculated by the device based off some average of golfers trajectories and imputing what to tell the user??? Here's my thought...the same uphill shot for Rory McIlroy may be different for me b/c we have different launch, spin, trajectories, etc. Perhaps I'm overthinking that and I'm completely off base...but that is my view.

And on a side note, if someone really needs a device to tell him/her it's uphill and to take more club, then so be it. I'll use my good ole eyeballs and 20 years of experience playing golf to ascertain the level of pitch and how much additional club I might need on an uphill shot. And that comment is not to be inferred as a slight towards people that use rangefinders with slope...it's meant to be a slight towards people that think it's a competitive advantage!

Very clever, with a device that you can switch off the slope feature its still non legal, very clever that bushnell allow you to completely remove it from the device thus making it legal......

So it's a plastic non waterproof version of then g4i2? Why not pay the same amount for better optics and more durability
[/quote]

Where did you read its not waterproof?

The Z6 and X7 models are fully waterproof - would be surprised if their new top of the line was not.

The slope thing is a non issue. You can measure course elevations on Google Earth to the foot and put the data in your yardage book notes.

Didn't read it but talked to my bushnell rep about it. Also look at it, the z6 and x7 models are metal and look like it. Those are the only waterproof models they carry the casing looks more like the tour v3 which is not but they will probably add in a silicone cover to help protect it.
