Callaway - You Need 6 Ball Models

Like most... I don't play Callaway because I can't keep up with the names...

Keep it simple... Like Titleist...

Distance Balls - Warbird.... think Pinnacle Gold...

Low-Compression, Lady's Ball - Super Soft... think DT Solo...

Good Amateur / Aspiring Pro - Chrome, Chrome +... think NXT S, NXT Tour

Pro Balls - Hex Tour, Hex Tour + ... Think Pro V1, Pro V1x...

Don't change yearly... get a following and keep it...

PS - I ignored Velocity... only Titleist could take a Pinnacle Gold, stamp Titleist on it and sell them for almost twice as much...

Cobra S9-1: 5 Wood
Callaway Heavenwood Hybrid: 20 & 23

All ball companies make too many sku's, including Titleist/Pinnacle, and the names are unclear as to who should play them.

Five ball categories would be plenty:

Pro - a ball for those who's income is derived from their tournaments.
Scratch - for someone who can shoot around par.
Amateur - for players up to 18 handicap.
Fun - a ball for weekend warriors and casual players or those who never play in tournaments.
Cheap - for those who never look for lost balls.

I do play Callaway golf balls, understand their line up, for the most part, but like the simplicity suggested.

The Chrome series, a sub $40 urethane tour type ball is a great ball below premium priced golf balls.

The Super Soft is aptly named and has garnered a following.

Until they gain a large enough market share in the premium ball market or the $25.99 level we're probably in for a slew of name changes in the future.

That's not true. Had you said "I don't play callaway", instead of adding the "like most" in there I wouldn't have even responded. I get it, and to a certain extent I agree. It seems that the most consistent ball companies stick to the same few model names every year. However, I wouldn't have the slightest inkling as to the reason "most" people play Titleist over Callaway, I would assume there are multiple reasons, that's why I thought I'd ask if you had some data from a survey of some sort.

I was shocked Callaway didn't change the name of the Supersoft (I play the ball)

It could have been Marvelouslycomfy

Hahahaha, welcome to Marketing 101 to US Consumers.

Too bad most folks who comment seem to really like the SuperSoft, the DT solo...not so much.

Chrome + is leap years better than either NXT, so is the Chrome for that matter - assuming have the game to be able to differentiate between balls.

Hex Tour and Hex Tour +, which country or planet are these sold on?

Titleist website shows 7 brands, Callaway only 5.....now if count the Pinnacles, that puts Titleist up another.

Pinnacle Gold is a waaay better ball than the Velocity.

You're point is a good one though. It's too damn confusing.

I think the reason for the name changes from Callaway is to differentiate between the "generations" of balls. Unlike Titleist, which I was done with playing about 2002, I know what ball I am getting from Callaway. Titleist balls on sale could be ANY generation, and if you didn't recognize the difference in box design, you would never know if you were sold an "old" generation ball as new (i.e. full price) or not. The SR2/3 is the same ball as last year, and the same goes for Chrome/Chrome+/SuperSoft. The Soft Fast is a new design and has a new name. Personally, I prefer this method to the Titleist method ... for now.

I guess I am part of the minority as I have been a Callaway ball player for as long as I can remember. Do I play other balls, yes... when I prefer them to the current generation ball (or get them as a gift). Love the SR's and Chrome+ ... miss the Hex Black (minus the chewed covers).

I stopped playing pro v1's several years ago but I think they put the model year on the box now.

I stopped looking at the boxes up close about 3 years ago when they made tiny little changes to differentiate. The only reason I know what this and last year's boxes look like is they were sitting next to each other and I got all the "Team Titleist" surveys to help them pick the next box. Looks a bit better in black, but I don't remember seeing a year on it.

Five models for Callaway? Off the top of my head: SR1, SR2, SR3, Chrome, Chrome+, SuperSoft, Chrome Soft, X2 Hot, X2 Hot Plus, Warbird .... and I feel like I missed one or two. If they're not still making all these models, that's part of the confusion, to me.
I think Callaway would benefit from some consistency.
Even though Titleist tweaks the formula of the ProV1 (and probably NXT), I know, basically, what I'm getting. And, most golfers, myself included, can't tell the difference between any of the versions. Titleist has identified the tiers of the golf ball market, and have a product for each. Callaway feels like they're all over the place and are competing against themselves, somewhat.

I agree, but disagree. I agree that it's way simpler to simplify, but what's all the fuss?
I play bridgestone b330's and prov1's, but I don't really mind if other manufacturers are putting out umpteenhundred balls....I just play my ball :)
my 2cents...

For 2015:

Warbird
Super Soft
Super Hot
Chrome Soft
Speed Regime

All others should be on sale, but obviously clog up the current ball story.

Yes, but there are 3 flavors of Speed Regime.

I agree with the OP sentiment - Titleist, Bridgestone, and Srixon all have well defined models. Sure they tweak them but it lets you know what to expect from a model in their lineup.
