Giving up golf...

Giving up golf to pursue other interests
Has anyone ever quit golf cold turkey to try and do things that they have always wanted to. I quit golf my senior year of high school to pursue football. I also entered some body building competitions. I was actually successful at both, (I have always been an athletic kid). All this happened while I had several Division I golf scholarships waiting for me. Everyone called me crazy but I did it anyway. Decided to pick up the sticks about 8 months ago and signed a scholarship to play golf at another D I school even after not playing for all that time. Still ended up being the number one on the team,.......after a rough fall semester haha. But I just love telling all those people that said I was so dumb for quitting how much I enjoyed my time off and how I am sooooo glad I did it lol.

after senior year when my coach benched me for the state finals, I gave it up for a year and a half. I focused more on tennis as I was pursuing playing that in college, turns out i made the team to later be told the funding was cut and so was I... after about a 15 months without the sticks, i decided i had to get back out there, and im about 4 strokes better now than in highschool. i think the time off made me better.

I think it made me not as burned out, but when I first came back i was awful. Almost made me want to quit again. My game came back in pieces, definitely not all at once.

Yep, I quit after my senior year of high school in 1993. I was on a CIF Champion team and I had scholorship offers to several colleges. I quit, after graduation and headed off to Colorado in August to be a ski bum. I drove snow-cats and did ski patrol for a few years, I ended up playing for fun twice in 4 years. Between 1997 and 2007 I played about 5 times total. Until this year I am getting myself back into it. I love the competition, but I am awful. Although, my handicap is about 7.5, in high school I was almost a 0 handicap. All-in-all, I am happy with where my life went, I have gotten married and have a 15 week old son, I play on an Amateur tour and I have fun. I could be more wealthy, but my old friends are not happy with where they are at and regret mistakes they have made. I would do it the same way all over again in an instant.

Actually, funny story ... A few years ago I was leading Q-school after 5 rounds and decided right there on the 17th hole of the 6th round to quit golf cold turkey and become a porn star. I figured I always wanted to be a porn star and after hitting my drive into the rough on 18, I had had enough. I was pretty successful in porn for a while -- they called me the donkey -- but one day I saw an air show and decided that flying fighter jets was more my thing. So I took a few night classes and now it's me flying in air shows! They call me Maverick Donkey. Funny thing is, I flew over a golf course today -- while doing this wicked 5G roll -- and got a wave of emotion. Soooo .... anyone got room in their foursome tomorrow?

I just looked at the website for Lipscomb, specifically the golf team. There is only one freshman on the team and he did not do that well or was in any of the tournies that I saw results for. Did you enter the class in a different grade, are you a sophomore?

ย

It appears that a Cody Hale is the best player on the team, and he is a senior (nationally ranked). Every event that I looked at he was atop the leader board for your team, meaning that I bet he is the number one guy on the team. Are you Cody Hale?? Or are you someone else on the team? He appears to be the obvious choice for the number one guy.

ย

If you are the only Frosh on the team, I did not see you in much/any of the results that are posted on the schools website for the tournaments. There are at least 6-10 tournies posted since Sept. I would think that you would be in at least a few of those to garner the number one spot.

ย

Not that it matters, but if you are going to gloat that you are the number one guy on the D1 team after taking 8 months off and then deciding to pick it back up.....well one would hope that it is true. Maybe it is, I don't know....but I could not verify with the information that I had.

ย

If it is....good luck to you in your en devours.

Dear Everyone

ย

If you're going to tell a lie then make it a big one.

ย

Don't bother with small lies to make yourself look all supercool and talented, for example "I was successful at football and bodybuilding, I've always been athletic" or bigger but vague ones like "I was offered several div 1 golf scolarships".

No one will believe you and even if they do you're still not going to get a girlfriend from a site like this.

ย

No, what you really want to do is to follow some of these minor ones with a whopper that people won't believe, and make sure its one that can be verrified like the Stallion has done here: "I am no 1 on the Lipscomb golf team"

ย

You know that someone will go off and check up on you, and then we can all laugh at you and feel better about ourselves.

ย

ย

Oh, happy days!

I quit golf cold turkey every November for 6-7 months.

I just decided it's time for a change, so I took up ballroom dancing & won the worlds in only 5 months of training, I also wrote a book & took night classes to become a doctor.

This was one of the best decisions i have ever made, truly life changing, & all this with the golfing ability to be sucessfull on the PGA Tour, it just feels good to know who I am. :friends:

Let me get this straight... you didn't play golf your senior year in high school, took 8 months off (when you'd have missed college deadlines by that time anyway), yet still got a good Division I program to give you a scholarship over tons of other deserving recruits they had lined up on a mere whim that you might be able to compete after all that supposed time off?

ย

Riiiiight...
