Anyone recently join or is a member of Kemper? Just moved back into the area and am considering joining with how reasonable the rates are but was hoping to hear some thoughts before progressing further.

I am not a member but have a friend who is and I have been out to Kemper a couple times this year. The course is in amazing condition and the work they completed on the bunkers is top notch. The club doesnt offer a lot of amenities just great golf.

What are opinions of Beverly?
[/quote]

I looked into Beverly earlier in the season and didnt find them very responsive (the membership coordinator might have been on maternity leave). I have heard that they are at the target membership. From what I have seen and heard it is a great course.

Beverly usually has a waiting list and may be more expensive. Olympia, I would imagine would be more expensive, but you get a top 100 course and a top 200 course.

Along with Idelwild and Floosmore, no one has mentioned Calumet Country Club (just south of 80 and closer to the City than Idle/Floos/Olympia). It is an old Donald Ross and the word there is that there are some outstanding money games. The junior rate this year was solid.

So I just moved here over the winter from Washington DC. It's clearly getting to be that time of year, so looking of some info about club memberships in the area. I live in the Wicker Park area, if that makes a difference.

What's reasonable for membership pricing here...because it was out of control in the DC area?

A few I've talked to recently...

Rolling Green - Arlington Heights - - junior membership is $12k initiation, with $5k due upon start and the remainder over 2 yrs. Monthly dues of $420 with an annual club fee of $500 and food/bev annual of $1,500. ClubCorp purchased them recently and seem to be putting a lot of money into the clubhouse and fitness center. Their facebook page has a lot of photos.

Medinah - surprisingly willing to talk to people without a sponsor. Went as far as to say they would help connect me with members who might be interested in sponsoring me. Junior membership is $60k total, $8k due upon start and the remainder split annually until 40. Monthly goes up with age but is about $620 in mid 30s, $820 high 30s and then about $1k/month over 40 yrs old. There is a few $k food/bev min too.

Chicago Highlands - pricing is on their site, you can find junior pricing with google. Looking at about $75 - $100k initiation but their big selling point is that most/all of it is fully refundable either immediately or in 30 yrs. Monthly is in the $600 range but apparently includes a lot of perks, like free lessons. Course / facilities look amazing, but I'd be very skeptical about giving them $100k of a "refundable" deposit. They also don't have their full clubhouse built yet. What happens if the club goes under? What happens if they just run it poorly and don't have my $100k in 30 yrs? Seems like an interesting idea but practically not sure how that works.

Highlands has been "building" their clubhouse for years. I would remain skeptical, although I do know a few members, and they are great dudes.

Haven't heard much about Rolling Green.

Medinah is great. Course 1 is brand new, 3 is unreal, and 2 is under a major reconstruction right now. Good bunch of guys there also. Having the 2019 BMW.

While you're at it - check out Butterfield. Redone a few years back - 3 nines . . .all great!

Olympia courses are great, it's relatively affordable, but it's a little out of the way. Same with Beverly - great course, tough to get to, and bad neighborhood.

Hi All,

Did some research. Spoke to and visited Calumet and Sand Creek so far, but looking for other options and feedback on any on the south side. Hopefully visiting Flossmoor and Idlewild soon.

Any others down there I need to consider? Olympia would be great, but thats on the higher end of what I'm looking for.

Thanks for any input.

Take a look at Ridge Country Club. I'm not a member but I caddied there for 9 years though grammar school, high school and college. Not an overly long course, but its tight and will eat you up if you aren't in the fairway. Been there a few times this year and the course is always immaculate.

Heard Ridge CC is a good spot, only heads up is they do not have a range.

Calumet on the south side. One of the few clubs down South that are not bleeding members that need spectacular deals to attract members. Remember, a club that has to offer a spectacular deal to attract members are probably hurting financially and will probably charge a nice chunk of change for assessments.

One of the best playing clubs in the state (70+ members single digit, 30+ members under 5 index), good mix of old and young members, always in great condition, super convenient to get to (just off I-80/294). HMU if you have any questions.

Considering a move to the area. Work would be in Lemont just off 355 and home would probably be either Homer Glen or Orland Hills. Any private clubs around there allow you to walk and carry your own bag? Looking for a 15 minute drive max from either.

Crystal Tree in Orland is only option I'm aware of with that kind of max drive time.

People say it's tricked up, but I enjoy the layout quite a bit and the vibe is fun. Boss is a member and I've spent a fair amount of time there. In fact, it's the only course I played this year. Of course, I only played once.

I think for the money and quality of the course Flossmoor is pretty tough to beat. Only thing against it is the aging clubhouse.

Anyone have any info on international memberships. Live outside the USA now and have family in Chicago. Looking for the higher end clubs that would be able to arrange for a round at other private clubs around the country on occasion as I travel quite a bit. PM is fine. BTW love Medinah and great guys there that I have met!

Keep in mind that butterfield and Chicago highlands are 100k+ initiation fee with Glen oak at (I believe) 65ish.

I'm fairly certain there's a wait list for two of the three as well...
