Coolest/Most Exotic/Rarest Auto You Have Seen on the Road

This topic came to mind when I saw an Astin Martin DB-9 on the road coming home from the golf course yesterday. Besides that car, I would say the 2014 Nissan GTR I saw last summer would make my list.

Back in 2000 I saw a Ferrari F40 casually driving behind me. They were worth around $300k then. Today they are around $1.5 million. I have seen several Lamborghini Diablos, including a 6.0. All these were in the same city in Ohio, not some affluent city like Beverly HIlls either. This was also when exotic cars were still rare. Now they are everywhere.

Lotta nice cars in Calgary that people can only drive 5 months of the year. Seen a handful of bentleys, 63 amgs, saw a nice Maserati yesterday, saw a Rolls once in Calgary and saw the same one a handful of times in Victoria.

A guy in my old neighborhood had an Enzo. Friend has a GTR. Ive seen a Veyron, F40, F50 (was in a repair shop so not really on the road), Jag XJ220, Porsche 959, Carrera GT, MP412C, SLR Mclaren, drove an SLS. Cars I've never seen but hope to: Mclaren F1 (been waiting for this one for like 15 years), Mclaren P1, Laferrari, 918, Pagani, Koenigsegg, LFA.

Im in LA, so of course if you go somewhere like Beverly Hills, you'll see pretty much anything. But I've been to Miami a few times, and the number of exotic cars is absurd. If you can go an hour without seeing something insane, you're probably in the wrong neighborhood. Ive got a cousin who is pretty well off, and he went to Monte Carlo, and basically said that its a place that rich dudes go to and feel poor.

There's a massive Jaguar / Land Rover plant 5 mins down the road from where I live so you tend to see them testing vehicles covered in the 'zebra' camouflage paint.

I went to Monte Carlo for a day and saw dozens upon dozens of Ferrari's, Bentley's, and Porsche's. I also distincly remember seeing a black Lamborghini Merci LP 640 Roadster. Looked like a batmobile and must've been worth a fortune.
My uncle's friend is actually about to purchase a Ferrari 430 Scud, which is up there as well.

Well I've seen a lot of cars in my time. RR phantoms, countless Bentley's and AMG's, the odd brabusand a few Lamborghini's and Ferrari's, a few astons, hundreds of 911s. My brother's friends's Dad drives a maserati and my mom's boss a neat collection. He has 2 bentleys, a Ferrari and a G-Wagon. He let me rev his F430 a few years back.

But the rarest car I have ever seen is a Ford from the 1920s when I was on holidays in Switzerland. Saw a Ferrari F1 car in a shop in Italy but that wasn't on the road!

Guy in my parking lot has a Ferrari 458 italia and an Aston Martin db9, there's a Porsche gt3 and an audi r8 in there as well. There's a lot of cool cars in there (couple of 911s, lots of m3s, couple of amgs) but those four are my favourites in the lot.

I'm a big Ferrari guy, and the coolest cars I've ever seen were a Ferrari Enzo and a Ferrari f50 at a car show. The coolest I've seen on the street was a mclaren F1 I saw in London (I see tons of awesome cars there), and my favourite car I've seen on the street was a Ferrari F40, also in London.

Ferrari 360 Modena, and Ferrari 458 Italia. I was lucky enough to be behind the Modena in a bit of stop and go traffic and be able to listen to that flat plane crank sing. The owner was obliging with plenty of gurgles and spits on the overrun. Seen a handful of Lambos around (Raleigh area) too, but I notice the Ferraris a bit more. Aston V12 Vantage was a sight and sound too.

Here, in NashVegas, there's a fair amount of Ferraris, Maseratis, Teslas, Aston Martins, Audi RS's ... but I'm a sucker for all the retro showroom rides like the old Vettes, 356 Bathtubs, etc. I live less than a mile from Nissan's North American HQ and routinely see the execs tooling around in GTRs. Not sure I really 'get' that car. For $100K +, it could be a helluva lot better looking.

I'm not even into Japanese cars (drive German cars) but I love that GTR, it's a beast.

I've actually had the pleasure of driving several rare or "super" cars. I grew up in the right neighborhood and some friends dads had some sweet cars but I got to drive some really cool stuff when I became manager at a valet company in town. Minneapolis isn't exactly a super car hot spot but i've driven:
Ferrari's: 308, 348, 355, 360, Challenge Stradale, 430, 550M, 575, 612, and my personal favorite, a cocaine white Testarossa
Lambo's: Gallardo, Gallardo Spyder, Superleggara, and my personal favorite, Lattrell Spreewell's Murciealago (License plate was Mcyonme), I got to drive him home in this one night and it was awesome.
Side note: Spreewell also had a Maybach that I got to drive
Aston Martin's: DB7, DB9, Vantage, and Vanquish (a girl I grew up with was given this as her high school graduation present)
AMG's: CL63 (Rashad McCants), CL65, S65, SL55, 65, 600, and SLR McClaren
Bentley's: Arnage, Continental, Flying Spur
Rolls Royce: Phantom (Dante Culpepper's, Pat Williams)
Nissan GTR
Porsche's: Turbo, GT3, and a really cool slantnose turbo

As for cars i've seen on the road, I lived in Miami for two years and saw pretty much everything: Veyron, Enzo, McClaren, Saleen S7 (which was really sweet to see in person)

Man good question, by nature of where I live I get to see a lot example 3 458's today alone,

Off the top of my head there are a few cars I have only seen a handful of times or less on the actual road, I do get them all mixed up because I go to Barrett Jackson Scottsdale every year too.

F40 once bunch more at Barrett
Porsche GT once. Still have not seen a 918 on the road 959's seen a couple at auction and on the road. Favorite was watching a 959 and F40 run laps at Laguna Seca as a kid.
Enzo 0 times on road few times at shows or Barrett
Mclaren P1 once insane looking and sounding car.
Veyron's seen 2-3 different ones around here.
Lamborghini Miura 0

To me the Miura is the one I would love to see. probably one of the most rare cars now such a great looking car and have not even seen one at Barrett that I can recall.

Most common in Scottsdale seem to be the 458, R8 GTR Bentley and Porsche Turbo, GT3, do see a handful of A.M. Vantage and Maserati is becoming more prevalent

Lots of awesome responses guys. Many of you must travel/live in more affluent areas than I do (which goes without saying). I am jealous of any one who has seen any model McLaren or Konigsegg, but this one has to be amongst the winners. Truly a rare and exceptional sighting!

There is a guy in a neighboring town that owns two Shelby Cobras. 64 & 65...I think. One is street legal and the other was a race version....he drives them both around occasionally. Jay Leno showed up unannounced a few years ago trying to buy them...he left disappointed.

This guy is keeping them to give to his two grandsons. They're about 10 years old now....can't hardly wait to see those two little yahoos racing around town at 150 mph.

My dad is a huge car guy and has a couple that would be considered exotic (GT3, GT3 Cup, 930 turbo (Factory Slantnose), etc). Through my times at the race track with him and a couple of one off events, I have seen a lot. The one's that stick out in my mind though are a Carrera GT (seen 3 of them on the road now in different colors and 1 on them on the track all in Ohio), I have seen 4 different Veyrons (none in Ohio), F40, and more recently, and my current favorite, a McLaren P1.

I went to the Concours at Pebble Beach a few years back and the cars there were just insane. I'm not counting anything that I saw there.

On a side note, this past summer I drove my Dad's GT3 in a car event here in Columbus called Exotics on Park. Its was a police escort drive around down and right down High St (which runs through the middle of Columbus from the suburbs to campus to downtown). So many cools cars in it. 4 or 5 Aventadors, Astons, every variant of Porsche 911, lot of Ferrari's (which kept overheating) and a little bit of everything in between. Very fun event to be a part of.

Saw a P1 in a parking garage...didn't get to see it leave and was sad when it was gone after dinner.

In Houston I've seen quite a few of this and that, Bentley, RR, Ferraris, and Lambos sometimes now I pay them no mind. Now the DB9 and DB7, I think, I will coast up to and stay near just to hear them rev. But, my fav to see on the road is the Ford GT. Not the original GT40 but the new GT. Something about that car just...

Live in NY Metro and spend time in the summer out in the Hamptons. You name it I've probably seen it. McLaren F1 & P1, Veyron, Carrera GT, 959, Enzo, F40, Zonda, Shelby Cobra, etc... The greatest one I saw, and lost the picture of it, was a Ferrari 375 Indianapolis (Single Seat Open Wheeled F1 Car), that was a jaw dropper.
