my markers bother many a golfer

(PRO) They are white and easily spotted on the green. :good:

(CON) I hope you fix the hole from the .22 cal shell, when you land on someone's line. :shok:

 • 2 weeks later...

yeah, other than the poker chips (and only slightly)...i've never had one bother me. i'm pretty easy-going. Don't get caught up in stuff like that.

In casual rounds, me & my buddies rarely mark at all - either play continuous, or only mark if literally right on the line.
We would razz a guy who asks someone to mark a ball, that's >6" off his intended line...lol

I don't mind a large marker but I don't understand the need for one. I haven't read the whole thread so this may have been answered but what is the reason for using a poker chip? I use a NY Giants magnetic marker/divot tool combo. I have played with people who use poker chips and near my line or even on the other side of the hole can be a little distracting but I block it out and focus on my putt.
It's so morons can see it and don't step on your line/marker. When playing with people that pay attention I'll use a dime, but all too often it needs to be a poker chip.
I've been playing golf for 25 years and can probably count on one hand the number of times someone has stepped on my line when using a small marker. Must be playing with a lot of drunks or people who have no golf etiquette. :)
NOPE. No drunks, just unobservant folks. I've been playing longer than most, and I can assure you that I've had at least once every couple of rounds a player walk after his putt and turn around to ask where everyone's ball is. Nine times out of ten he's standing on someone's line when he asks. I use a WHITE marker that is a bit larger than a quarter just so it can bee seen easily. If it bothers anyone they need to get over it.

Played with a guy yesterday using an old dingy penny that was almost black/brown. I came from a greenside bunker and walking to mark my ball I walked in his line and he got mad at me. I apologized but I told him I couldn't even see the mark when he pointed it to me.

I would rather you use a damn hub cap over a rusty penny that no one can see.

yeah, if something's color resembles a leaf etc, the guy can't get mad.... well he CAN get mad but it is not warranted.

For sure. I am one of the most cautious players around the greens when it comes to ettiquette and never would have known where he was marked. He was lining it up from the other side and I never saw where he was from the bunker.

Just another reason why I DO use my silver dollar and poker chips to mark with most of the time. I always have a smaller mark like a dime or nickel for when I am near the hole

I use the metallic coin that fits on a divot tool. I always but them at new courses and have a pretty nice collection. I will game ones from good rounds and leave the bad rounds in the bag. Don't need their negative energy. Also don't put a f*ing poker chip in my line. It makes no sense. I want to pull out a Frisbee and lay it down in poker chip's line just to prove a point.

If a marker is on your line, have the player move it. If you hit the marker when off your line, you weren't gonna make the putt anyhow. I don't care if someone marks their ball with a frisbee, they're the ones looking silly.

By the way, the standard marker for tour players is a quarter from 1969 or earlier.

That surprisingly wasn't an attack on what you said, by the way... I was on the previous page when I posted that. Kinda serendipitous that we both said frisbee.

Precisely why I use a white marker. GolfWRX store has a nice one that I use. I had a small pouch, with a belt loop, made for the magnetic repair tool.
