That's..... interesting. Pretty sure Highlands Ranch has a similar deal for around $350 or $400 and I thought that sounded steep.
$475 for HRGC members
$695 for everyone else (yikes)

Bear Dance down in Larkspur has a pretty awesome course and group. It's $369 for the membership and then a whopping $95 "discounted" green fee per play. A little pricey, and I think I'd probably get bored playing the same course over and over but still nice...that http://www.frgclub.com group looks pretty cool. I wonder if they get any discounts at the places they play? Didn't see any info about that on their website...?

Not sure what you exactly mean, but there are no discounts for practice rounds or anything.

Basically, the league books all dates for the season around this time. They have to book it as a weekend corporate outing, so the costs are around rack-rate (if not a smidge higher). Almost all tournaments include range balls and some include schwag like yardage books, etc. The cost of the tournament also includes gross/net prize pool as well as CTP ($20 per par 3 if the course has four). There are also additional games that you can buy-in the day of the tournament like cart bets and most honest--plus a lot of guys have even more side games outside of the regular tournament.

Finally making the move to Denver (house is on the market in Flagstaff).

I don't think I'll be able to get my wife to buy on the southside.

Any thoughts on clubs in north Denver, Westminster, or maybe Thornton?

I think these will be my best chance. Maybe The Ranch Country Club?

Thanks for any thoughts!

Don't discount Castle Rock (about 20-30 minutes south of Denver). Denver ammenities, Colorado Springs (aka Broadmoor) is within 30 minutes, and you don't have to deal with the hustle/bustle of Denver life (and trust me, it is all hustle and bustle, no matter how far out you go in the 'burbs).

When you make it to the state PM me, we can play the Rio Grande club if you want to make the trip south.

My strategy this year is my golf league and a range membership to Meridian.
Wow. Stopped by Meridian today. They have jacked up their range membership to $850/yr. with no additional benefits. :( According to the pro shop employee, they are closing the tee boxes at the opposite end of the range (where range members hit). That means range members will share the same tee boxes as regular members. So the raising of the fee is to limit (by price) the number of range members the club will have.
GOSH DANG! And to think I was upset being asked to pay $200 for a range membership at my local!

But, $850, you might as well invest in your own balls (pun intended) and go to the local park!

I've just come back to golf after a long hiatus. I'm interested in getting into a men's league in my area (South Denver metro - Highlands Ranch area) and I am wondering which golf clubs and/or leagues are recommended. Would anyone be willing to run down through your opinions on some of the clubs and leagues in my area? TIA

I have a friend who plays in The Links men's league. He loves it. I've also heard good things about the men's club at Meadows. Lone Tree and Saddle Rock/Murphy Creek (I've heard) are ultra-competitive. I used to be in the men's club at Kennedy, and that was fun (we also had a few events at Wellshire).

I'm sure every golf course has their own men's club/league. It's just a matter of what you want to pay and where you want to play.

There are also three traveling golf leagues in the area: GC Am Tour, GolfWeek Am Tour, and FRGC. If there are more, I'd be interested in hearing about them.

Thanks Psuedo, I'll check your league out this year.

Looking like this weekend could be a good couple days to get out and play.

It's all what you're looking to pay to be involved. I'm a member and have played in Highlands Ranch mens club the last couple years and have enjoyed it. Good group and more or less fun guys that you can get paired up with each week. Good handicap mix and most are regulars so you're not getting a lot of sandbaggers.

Pseudo, sounds like you really like the Front Range tour, I've heard they've had a lot of sandbagger handicap issues. True or no?

I would say no. If you look at the results, the typical net winner is around -1 or -2 with the occasional guy going low (and it's never the same guy). Many of the guys in FRGC are members of other clubs--e.g. ClubCorp--so if they were caught sandbagging in one of these leagues, the other league would hear about it quickly.

We were living too good to be true. Definitely over due for this storm. We're expecting our 3rd any day, so I'm stuck at home, otherwise I would strongly consider making the trek down to Wolf Creek for the ridiculous powder.

This weather sucks. I have to wait 2 more weeks for the first of my Vegas golf trips.
What courses? Vegas can have pretty crummy weather too though. Puerto Vallarta is my favorite trip to escape the weather. Thinking with the new courses in Cabo, I'll need to head that way in November or this time next year.

What other areas do you guys go to in the winter?

Well snow hits again. There's an indoor tournament happening this weekend at APG links off Parker Rd, near Arapahoe road. They have 26 indoor bays (2 lefty) and the tournament is Abu Dhabi with 6ft gimmies. They use GC2 launch monitors by Foresight. The tournament is March 6-8, call them. Here's the website: http://apglinksgolf.com/tournaments
It's $35 to play, but the payout is big.

Looking at Meridian, the snow should be all gone by Wednesday. I imagine it will be playable tomorrow, but it'll probably be really soggy.

Regardless, third weekend in a row I'll be going skiing. Will be taking the kids to A-Basin to hit the Montezuma Bowl. :)

Playing Thurs-Sat at Royal Links, Las Vegas Golf Club and Stallion Mountain. Freaking itching to get out there. I haven't taken a winter golf trip yet this year and it's been way too long.
