Who is the next OEM to Rise?

Lag

Recommended Posts

With the golf industry changing and the entire business word become more internet based. Who do you think is in a position to rise to the top or near the top? I am talking about non-mainstream OEM's

Some big OEM's may fall or get stronger who knows, but who do you think is going to make the biggest rise the next 5 years or so?

My pick, well picks would be Parsons basically because of the money backing the company and the initial buzz.

My other pick would probably be Tour Edge. (Exotics) I have been enamored with the equipment and the performance and I wouldn't be shocked to see a rise from TEE.

Thoughts? What do you all think?

Based on the progress made since they got into golf, the quality of the club makers/designers they have engaged, innovation, the deepness of their pockets and their appeal to the younger golfer when added to the potential marketing power of Rory McIlroy I think Nike may well become the biggest company in golf. I know that in some circles Nike are not classed as a large OEM

Would say Callaway has been making alot of noise lately....ping is ping and always will be....TM is already on top

Basically it comes down to what Co wants to spend tons of money on marketing and sponsoring Amateur/tour players.....whoever does that it will leak into club sales......avg golfer wants to buy what they see on TV and what's popular.....has been and always will be this way. .....it's doesn't mean it's the best stuff out there.....people have to make a living and getting an endorsement deal is a big deal to golfers trying to make it as a professiinal......

Callaway has making a big push lately.....it costs money to be on top!

Top Co are on top for a reason.....a smaller co doesn't have the resources to compete with top dogs......some don't want to and others just don't have the money to compete with TM or Callaway....

Think about the last time a small co. rise to the top?.......hasn't happened since Callaway and TaylorMade over rode wilson, macgregor, etc....

The top Co now aren't going anywhere for along time.....

BTW I agree that nike will be huge in future but they weren't a small Co to begin with....

TEE won't be on the rise soon. They lack the money to get anyone on tour to play their products for money. Plus their irons aren't able to compete with other companies. But they're still great and many of their fairway woods are in tour pros bags.

I think Nike will either win it or lose it along with Bridgestone having a larger presence in the US. Srixon stands a good chance too.

I think Bridgestone is the company to look out for.

They have gone from one driver offering to two, and two iron offerings to five. Their golf balls continue to gain popularity and they have a good marketing presence.

Add in their new "Test Drive" program that will ship demo club packages to your door, for a 3 week trial, and I think you have a company that will be gaining a lot of traction (pardon the tire pun).

They'd be even bigger if they didn't have the shipping woes that they've had. This time its the irons and last time it was their golf balls. They know they're loved yet can't prep for a large number of orders. It's like they get in their own way to being more popular.

Srxion, with the new 745 stuff they rolled out and partnership (or ownership, not sure) with Cleveland they have great stuff top to bottom. Plus a pretty large staple of guys on tour playing their stuff.

Not Parsons, that's for sure. Until they are resigned to work with sheer volume, which they are clear they won't, they will remain a boutique line at best. I think if Bombsquad continues to grow and cultivate a quality product at a reasonable price, they could easily have a strong presence within the decade. These changes in presence take longer than they did years ago. Even having a player game a company's equipment for a major win isn't quite as beneficial this century.

Interesting how this topic has aged...

I think that the next non-mainstream brand to go mainstream will be a non-clubmaker with an established following that branches into releasing clubs (via new design or acquisition of an existing club brand). Someone like Volvik, Under Armour, or Sun Mountain.

I could also see a lower-tier house brand capitalizing on a significant advertising/design push and getting more mainstream traction. Reference the current love affair certain reviewers/sites have with Tommy Armour products, or the push that Wilson semi-successfully created with Driver vs. Driver (if only the products had been as groundbreaking as the show).

I've been on a quest for a new driver... and one of my big takeaways is the right shaft in the wrong head works 10x better than the wrong shaft in the right head... I'm not sure how that is going to impact the golf market... but I could see someone with big pockets but a small presence in the golf world capitalize on a best in class line of shafts to move drivers... Imagine Bridgestone buying out Matrix (I don't know the size of either of these companies, this is a spitball idea) and only being able to get the Black Tie 2.0 via a Bridgestone driver... tie in some noticeable colors on the shaft, and even if they put it in a different head, it's still noticeable.

Just a random thought.
