Original Penta - what's the closest modern equivalent?

I love everything about the original Penta TP. It was soft around the green, and went like gangbusters off the driver. Unfortunately, my horde of balls is nearly gone. I am not interested in brands or price - I would just like to find the current ball that most closely approximates the playing characteristics of the Penta TP.

What say you, GolfWRX hive mind?

Well the new Tour Preferred's stick like crazy around the greens, and are one of the longest balls I have played. Try out the TPX if you want more penetrating and low spinning long iron shots. Right now I'm playing the TPX and they are really the sweetest balls I've ever played. Maybe try out the Callaway Speed Regime also.

I thought it was a really good ball, too. Loved them, actually. I'm not sure why there is the constant need to rename and make major changes to a ball (cally, TM, etc).

Same question for this older thread. Absolutely loves the original penta tps and have yet to find a ball that I personally found as consistent. What are some 2015 recommendations?
I live in a remote area so am not afforded the ability to go to tm demo days and try balls.
And as a follow up to ray... I personally would buy original tp's if I could.

I do some sort of "ball test" almost every year. The original Penta won my 2010 test and has remained in the bag ever since. I have yet to find anything better, or at least "better enough" to switch. Like you however, my stock is running low and my next ball test will use the Penta as a "baseline" with the only caveat that the Penta can NOT win this time around. Ask me this same question in about a month and I'll give you a definitive answer. Well, I'll give you MY definitive answer.

Thus far I have the field narrowed down to the TaylorMade TourPreferred & TourPreferred X, Titleist Pro V1x, Callaway ChromeSoft (based on what I've read, I have yet to hit one) and the Nike RZN Black (this ball is much firmer off the putter so it's already not a very good 1-1 Penta equivalent). Based on my results thus far (which don't consist of much testing, it's still only 30' outside), I'd have to say that the TourPreferred line looks like a very good option. The 2015 Pro V1x is also looking good. I'm intrigued by the ChromeSoft but have yet to find somewhere that will sell me a single sleeve, I do not want to buy a full dozen for testing. I'll post my full test results when I finish it up.

I bought 40 dozen about two years ago and still have 12 dozen left.

I've been wanting to try some other balls but it didn't makes sense since I still have so many. If anyone is interested in buying them then shoot me a PM and maybe we can work a deal.

How on earth can a guy go through 28 dozen balls in 2 years? How often do you play? How many do you lose? I play once to twice a week and I would go through like 3 dozen a year max.
Easy, change ball every few holes. Some love that new ball feel and look. My buddy an I have a contest to see how long we can keep our ball. We use a tour ball, Wilson Staff FG Tour. He holds the record at 5 rounds + 10 hole before he lost it. They get pretty bad so it is no big deal to lose it. Sometimes we look forward to losing them.

I bought a bucket of 50 pentas off lostgolfballs.com for a pretty good price. Something to look into.
