Another bonus people have failed to mention is you meet a lot of people and make a bunch of friends

Agreed. Familiarity with the course and other players adds a certain level of comfort.

do not discount the ability to go out and play 2-3-4 holes.

This is what I loved about the course I worked at in college. There was a "loop" of either 3 or 5 holes that you could play because they were so close to each other and went back to the clubhouse. If you don't have time for 9 or 18 you could just play the 3 or 5 holes, depending on how busy it was. It was great for trying to play before dusk as well.

I lived on a semi private course for 3 yrs and have been a member for 2yrs.Its the nicest course in the county which means its busy 24/7. I have walked off numerous times because of slow play and i have had sum rounds go 6hrs.So last yr i said screw it and went to a full private club 5 min away just for the ease and fast play plus other accommodations, pool, resteraunt and social gatherings and other events.it cost me another 1200 but thats for family plan.I play alot more golf because of ease to getting on to play.Only 1 yr into it so i cant say if i would get bored but im sure i will still hit up a few different tracks with freinds

Yeah, that's another great thing about my course: winter versus summer conditions are vastly different. Firm and FAST in the fall/winter/early spring, and then softer and longer in the summer.

Our greens are FIRM and 12-13 all fall/winter. Very challenging.

I currently play a muni course 2-3 times a month and my game is pretty consistent to a point where I generally have the same tee club and the same approach shot on most holes. After a couple rounds of this, I find it a bit boring and predictable.

I was thinking of joining the local country club and was wondering if you guys ever get bored playing the same course most of the time?
[/quote] My club has two 18's and I love that. Honestly it would be difficult to become a member at just an 18 hole course because I've been spoiled. A lot of clubs have reciprocity, so joining one would afford you to play other places at a discounted rate.

I have been with my club for 18 years and have never really been bored with it. We are lucky to have 27 holes so that helps a bit. We have fantastic practice facilities, a great golf staff and the members are pretty awesome. And with 27 holes, I can always get out. Sometimes I go out solo and if it slows, I can just jump on another nine and play away.

I have never been bored with a golf course. Didn't like some if they were poorly kept up or too hard for my skill level.

I was thinking if you get bored playing one course 2 or 3 times a month it might be the hobby that you are finding boring. You may want to try another hobby but I wouldn't recommend bowling.

This is the way I feel! I have NEVER been bored on a golf course. I find the game far too challenging and enjoyable to ever foresee myself getting bored with a particular course (as long as it's reasonably well maintained).

That said, I also love the feel of playing a new course. When I went Private, one of my considerations was making sure that I could also afford to play other courses, too. Since then, I've learned that going private usually increases your access to other courses just through contacts alone.

First off, you'll never fully justify private club membership financially. You can get close, but you will still find a way to say you could have played less. I don't look at it as playing the same course as I consider playing the same course as my tradeoff for:

-easy to get on the course. You're a member, with the exception of events, or a ladies league or something, they will find a way to get you on the course.
-Practice. Not just the range, but they will likely have a short game area, and do not discount the ability to go out and play 2-3-4 holes.
-Camraderie. It is cool when you can walk up on a busy range and you know most people and they know you. Plus, if you're looking to play, you're far more likely to get invited to join a less than fourball than you would be at a public course. Most of my friends not at the course don't play golf, so I would either be playing alone or not playing. While it's fine, it's also nice when someone is willing to make a tee time for you.
-Motivation. You've paid your dues for the year. Saturday morning comes along, it's cloudy, a bit windy and there may be a little rain. If I'm heading to a public course and paying a green fee, I'm calling them up, cancelling, and rolling over. Whereas I'm getting out there with my membership. And I'm a better player for it.

Those are the main things I find that outweigh the fact I'm "playing the same course."

This sums up my feelings almost perfectly.

I never hit the ball to the same place twice so every round is different for me :taunt:

But seriously, I'm a new golfer still learning the game. I've only been playing for 3 years and almost all of my rounds have been at my home club. I still never get tired of it and look forward to every round and never get bored playing the same course.

here's why I love my home track

- the core group of 70 guys is awesome
- fifteen now very close friends from when I joined 10 years ago
- Wed 2pm men's day shotgun (60-110 guys)
- Friday aft and Sunday morning gambling games (8 to 16 guys)
- it is 4 minutes from my house
- everyone knows me
- I don't ever need a tee time
- top 30 course in Canada.
- Very challenging greens and layout

Our course plays very different each time out based on pins and wind direction.

I think of the just past 100 rounds I played last year, approx, 70 were at home. I play a lot of interclub and other tourney's thru season. Plus my course is part of a larger group of courses to I hit those up as well during the season

i don't get bored of it, but i'm pretty fortunate.

the course is a challenge from all three sets of tees, and changing wind direction and velocity day to day makes it play very different. one day you could shoot a 78 and think you played like crap, the next you could feel like it was one of your best rounds ever just salvaging an 83.

Playing 2 days in a row, it is quite common to have a range of 4-5 club distances. For example, Driver-3 iron from the gold tees on 5 into a S wind one day. Next day, hitting Driver-7 from the same tees with a N wind.

As you mentioned, so much variety in course length on individual holes. Also, a complete daily test on and around the green.

No I don't. Here's why.

- I know what I'm getting from the course as far as expectations on the conditions, pace of play, etc.
- My course is challenging enough that I feel like I get to test all facets of my game
- I know I'll always be able to find a group or two to play with and, to me, the company is just as important as the layout
- I can always mix it up a little by playing different tee boxes if I want to add some variety (driveable Par 4s, etc)

Personally, the biggest value of belonging to a country club is knowing that I'm going to be able to play a round of golf without having to wait on the group ahead of me or repair thirty pitch marks on a green. It's a privilege to belong to a club and I, admittedly, realize how spoiled I am when I play at a public course and b*tch about a 4.5 hr round.

The added benefit of meeting some really great people who add happiness to my life beyond the golf course makes it a worthwhile expense.

I never got tired of a quick round, could often play in 3 hours or less. But yes it is nice to mix it up a bit.
