EDIT MARCH 2011 - SCROLL TO BOTTOM FOR NEW PICS AND CLUBS

Hello everyone - I've been reading this site for quite a while now, and I've been inspired to post my set online. I'm curious to see what kind of responses my set will generate.

Here is my set:

Cracking bag.

Ping Ansers and 588s never go out of fashion and those Retro Raylors are essentially a rehash of one of the greatest club designs of all time. The old HM-40 was a bit special in it's day too.

The driver's an oldie-but-goodie and those TA3s are one of the more solid cavity-backed irons of the last 15 or so years.

Top stuff and it gets the seal of approval from me. :clapping:

Mat -

Thanks for the positive comments, I read your WITB thread and I think you and I are definitely on the same wavelength when it comes to equipment! Those irons have been in my bag since '03, the 3 wood has been in the bag for a few years, it replaced a callaway S2H2 (so I actually went to a larger headed 3-wood!).

I will never switch from the 588's....I love the look and the performance.

Again, thanks and hit 'em straight!

golf - I was wondering how long it would take before someone commented on my affection for the lead :clapping:

That's why my clubs have been in the bag for so long, when I go through a bad stretch, I regrip, add a layer of build up tape, and then I feel like I have to balance it with the tape......ever watch the tape of Barkley when he describes the golf swing as 'all mental'.....that pretty much 'splains it for me! :)

Love the bag, the 580 and 588s are still awesome clubs and better than alot of clubs out today. Play what works for you. Great set up.

Thanks Fade....'preciate the positive comments....this set has actually been a long time in the making and I've got it pretty fine tuned right now. The 60* gunmetal 588 is the newest club, but it replaced a RTG 588 that I had worn the grooves off of....I can't see myself switching those wedges out, from 100 and in I use them for pretty much every shot until I'm on the putting surface.

Awesome bag. Love everything in it and especially the Anser and 588s.

Question for you on the 53 RTG. Is it suitable for sand play/round the greens or has it not got enough loft on it for that?

There is an exact replica in my pro shop for £20 and I'm thinking of getting it. Anythoughts would be very welcome.

Jebb,

Thank you very much......truthfully I don't play many courses with bunkers that are in play for me, I don't remember hitting a sand shot this year! That being said I use the 60* for all greenside shots, I'm from the Jack Nicklaus school of chipping, pick a club and learn how to use it to produce a variety of shots, that's the 60 for me. So to answer your question, the only time I use the 53* is when I'm about 85-90 yards out and I have never hit it from a bunker or chipped with it.

It performs very well from the fairway, plus I love that pear shaped 588 head....

I still play the TA3's and the 588's....solid sticks. Often change, but always work my way back to those. Good looking bag.

Lpcc - Awesome...I was beginning to think my Dad and I were the only two people left on earth playing the TA3's! (and I'm playing the OLD version, the ones that say "Tour Action" in black capital letters in the cavity)...I've tried a few different sets, I used the Hogan Apex Channelbacks for a while, I played the old Taylormade irons that had the tungsten weights in the sole of the long irons and the short irons were made of nickel....I can't remember the name of those clubs....and I've tried different shaft combo's as well, flighted rifles, black gold.....but for me the DG S300 with that nice pear shaped TA3 head is a really nice fit....

I do have my eye on the Cobra MB's though...I was at the golf shop looking at those last night....they are a pretty club....

Thanks for the comments!

Loving the bag Cheetahlip!

588's, Retro Raylors, an Anser and lead tape all round. That's what a bag should like like.

Welcome to the site mate!

Villa,

You da man....thanks, I see a lot of bags on the WITB thread that I just don't understand...the clubs are so perfect looking I wonder if these guys run them through the dishwasher when they're done playing! I'm not trying to knock anyone, I love looking at beautiful golf clubs, it's a main hobby of mine and a real reason why I visit this site often....however, man, some of these guys have some NICE wands!!! :russian_roulette:

Hey, just wanted to update this post, I'm not sure how to 'update' it, so I'm just going to post my new putter. I went through Morton's Golf and ordered a brand new Manganese Bronze Anser from Ping. It's a 34" Gold dot (4 degrees flat) and it has the classic floating face.

Props to Morton's, I worked with Seannie and it was a very smooth transaction. The only snafu was that Ping sent me the putter with a grip that was so crooked I can't believe it passed their quality control! Not only was it crooked, but twisted as well, too bad because it was a nice feeling grip. So I slapped a Lamkin I had laying around on it, and Viola ... a new gamer is born!

Note the lead, I have no need to add tungsten weights to make my putters 350 grams :russian_roulette:

I don't know about the older ta3's, but the formforged ones i have look even better with the badges removed from the back.

lpccgolfer - do you have pictures of what they look like with the vibration dampeners in the cavity removed? I was thinking of doing that, but I was afraid it would mess with the sound/feel of the clubs?

Post them if possible....

Thanks!

Very nice set. Did you have the 16 raylor bent to 15? (that Aldila shaft is wonderful)

Sleepy - No I didn't, I'm a low ball hitter and a 16 degree 3-wood really works well for me, especially when it's combined with the 'raylor' style head....I was really happy when Taylor reintroduced that club a few years back, and even happier when I bought the 5-wood this season for like 30 bucks....for me, it's a steal!

Just sitting here watching Tiger destroy the field at the BMW, figured I'd post the two additions I've made to my bag since my initial post:

Driver: Titleist 907 D2 10.5* with Proforce V2 Counterbalance shaft (stiff). I've been wanting to give this shaft a shot for a while and it's yielded pretty good results. We'll see if it stays in the bag.

Hybrid: Ben Hogan Apex Edge C.F.T 3 Hybrid (21*) with Apex Edge 4 flex graphite shaft. This club has been great off the tee on short par fours and also a nice club out of the rough.

Ive got the D2... hitting it well, just need to find myself a shaft that will lower the spin. Other than that it is pretty solid. Tee the ball low... the hot spot is low on the face.

Maybe that's why I like this head so much, I tend to hit the ball in the middle of the face or lower. This tendency seems to be bad with the new larger headed clubs, I know my dad hits his driver in the top third every time and he hits these no spin missles that run forever. I can't make myself hit the top of the club like he does....but this driver has been treating me well on hits and mishits.

Figured I would take this opportunity to update my WITB .... Just got these gleaming new Cleveland CG Reds for Christmas!

Also got a new bag for next year: Sun Mountain 2009 SCB Speed Cart Bag

You can see it pictured here ( http://www.golfsmith.com/products/298979 ), I was looking for a bag without individual clubs slots, but that did have an external putter well. This bag fit the bill and looks like it will work great next season.

EDIT: Couple more pics: (I'm not too happy about all the different grips, I'll need to rectify that, just shows what a state of flux my set is in!)

Here is the latest update to my WITB:

CG Reds did not work out for me, ball flight was way too high. So I decided to go the blade route in an effort to lower my flight. I now have the PW-6 iron as Cleveland CG1's, S300's, standard L/L/L. I got the whole set of the bay. Anyone needs a CG1 3 or 4 iron let me know :)

I had to hit about 5 different models till I found one that kept the spin down. Not the newest of drivers but i'll defo be using for a while longer. Not sure why it got such negative reviews when compared to the 905 and 909
