I was wondering if anyone else would catch this. I also noticed that Geoff Ogilvy is playing what appears to be the same year/version of the ProV. I too thought it was pretty interesting. I know they're tour pros and have limitless accessibility, but I wonder how and where they're getting these balls. :D

The current Pro-V1 and Pro-V1X are garbage. Most of the Tour Pro's are using the older version of the ball. What a shame and a kick in the teeth for a company like Titleist that prides itself on being the best, for their professionals to be playing a ball that is 4-5 years old.

How is that a shame? It's simply personal preference on the part of the player.

Your post is garbage. And is also completely false. For one TONS of pros are playing the new ball, actually most of them are. The only noteables that are not are Davis Love, Donald and Holmes. Ogilvy is playing the new one, so is Adam Scott and Zach Johnson. AKA there best players.

thats like saying the new AP2's are garbage because so and so still uses the 680's. no. they use what works and obviously what works for one person wont work for everyone! same with golf balls

Acutally, I wouldn't call his post "garbage", he is stating some facts. JB Holmes won the FBR with the '05 ProV1x which is the same ball Greg Kraft, Andres Romero and Boo Weekly are using and won with, not available at retail. In fact what most consumers don't realize is that all ball companies have various prototypes used by the Tour players since each player has specific requirements. Example would also be Callaway and Nike who like Titleist, have several versions available. There are of course many players also playing what is available at retail. Examples are Tiger who is currently playing the Nike One Platinum which can be bought at retail, Geoff Ogilvy playing the current Titleist Pro V1 and several others. Hope that helps...

My buddy caddies on tour for a Titleist player who plays the 05 Pro V1 X. The reason is the new X spins too much with the shots 175 and in, the ball balloons and comes up short plus it is not as long off the driver. A lot of guys play the 2007 version of the normal Pro V1-Scott etc.....Most of the X players play the 2005 version. There is a great picture on teh Titleist Tour blog from the locker room at the Masters. Their rep is stocking the lockers and you see two stacks of balls. One stack of 2008 Pro V1's and one stack of 2005 Pro V1 X's.

Uhhhh bud the 2007 Pro V1x......IS THE NEW ONE. There is no 2008 Pro V1X. THe 2007 is the newest version. So yes Adam Scott, Ogilvy, Zach Johnson are all playing the new one. So how can you makea claim like "most of the X players play the 2005 version..." Who? Davis Love is the ONLY one that I know of.

Want to sell some of the 2008s that dont exist? Titleist released this ball Feb. of 2007.

JB Holmes does not play a PRO V1X. He actually plays the original Pro V.

The guy never claimed that Titleist put out a 2008 version. All he said was "the new one."

Because Davis Love is the only player you know he's wrong?

I love this thread because I'm one of those guys that loves the 05' Pro Vx. I still have one sleeve but haven't been playing them because honestly the new Callaway Ix has been a huge blessing. It's as good if not better, it spins a little more but I think distance wise it's a hair longer. I wish Titleist would rerelease the 05 x though! I'm worried if I play older balls now I'll lose some distance due to age but maybe I'm just paranoid if the tour guys are still using them.
