Epon AF Tour CB Vs. Miura CB57

I agree as well. my problem with miura is I believe they've diluted their own brand too much and it's really confusing as a consumer as to which one to get. slight differences in grind, a muscle cut this way instead of that, done by miura-San himself or his sons, it all is just too hard to follow, so they lost me awhile ago. that being said, I still admire the craftsmanship and beauty of some of the sets, but I just can't get into them anymore...well, except for one set --- I wil have to own a set of miuraism's one day, now that one is classic!

I'd say the same goes for the miura cb57, and retail prices are similar between both brands.

one thing I will say is miura seems to uphold more of the purist player specs on many of their sets, whereas epon seems to try new things and try to innovate on the tech/specs to help playability. some may say this is for the weaker player and even unorthodox, but seems to work well for many people.

for me, miura forged typically does look nice, but I have to give the nod to epon craftsmanship, as in most cases, they are flat out more beautiful....with the exception of miuraism's ;) Just my $0.02

I can get Miura for 200 club built or under. Epons are closer to 300 plus
[/quote]

I was specific to say retail, it's just that miura is a bit more entrenched in local markets here in the states, so a little easier to get a discount. Epon is strict with their discounting and seems to be less epon dealers but I'm willing to bet discounting can be done with full builds, one way or another either through the shafts, grips or labor costs to get fully built sets closer to your miura cost.

Also, is $200/head built for any miura set? there are so many, seems hard to compare to make a direct price comparison with epon who has a more streamlined model lineup.

Their technology, quality, and craftsmanship warrant their asking price...however, I've always been ok with paying a little more for exclusivity and when we're talking about JDM let's face it, that's definitely part of the equation. And since it is part of the equation, Epon gets the nod in that department too.

I think at times we're all guilty of allowing ourselves to get to carried away with technology , designs , craftsmanship & price .
If you're prepared to pay the prices that these command then just hit them and let that be the determining factor .
Performance is the most important factor , and Miura certainly gets the nod for that !

Pulled the RIP Shafts out of the Miuras and have new Project X 95 Flighted Shafts being installed as I type this.

The EPONS are great but the offset on them is starting to get on my nerves.

The Set-Up on the Miuras are just too nice not to give them another shot at the starting line-up

Something JDM

I guess thats always been the gripe on Epon and their iron designs. Too bulky and too much offset, especially in their short irons.
I wish Epon would redesign the short iron heads. Make them slightly smaller and reduce the offset along the lines of Srixon 745 - Miura CB57

Where in my post does it say that Epon forgot?

Epon's market caters to the Japanese affluent market and not made for the masses, exclusivity, and I understand that. Every Epon product Ive purchased and used have been nothing short of perfect for fit, finish, and tolerances. (503, 302, Persoanls, AF Tour Blade, Af Tour CB)
Epon believes their designs are more user friendly to their targeted market so thats why they design them the way they do.
The size and offset might be a none issue with some but others will care for a slightly smaller head with less offset.

I think we can all agree they both have great offerings, some better than the others, and their target customers might be slightly different. Probably why Miura has a stronger U.S. market than Japanese, and vice versa for Epon. The offset issue is definitely there for Epon, but they hold firm on their stance and somehow, they hide it really well on some of their models, and those are the ones that suit me more.

I saw a pic of a set of Copper Af Tour Blades, I think they were in Singapore but they looked soooo good.

I must admit the prices that I've seen for Epon would suggest that they certainly do hold their value nicely .
I have a set of mint condition AF503s that I purchased about this time last year . I gamed them for a few weeks & they just weren't for me .
I'm going to put them in the BST in a week or so . They have Recoil 95s F4 .
I guess we'll see how their value holds up .

I've been searching for another set to build. I sold off my Miura CB57 a couple of months ago. The biggest regret by far. I'm coming back to them. Miura CB57 are solid irons and designed perfectly.

Hope you get to find a set soon Mate .
Will you have them built with the Tour V again or try a different setup ?
