Will be there in May, and will have a chance for 18. Cost no issue. Would love to score Royal Montreal, but unlikely. Will be staying right downtown... Where should I go?

Might be worth you sending a PM to 'MtlJeff' as he's based there. I'm sure he would have some good suggestions.

He did just PM me! I didn't see that he was staying downtown in this thread, because i only checked now. We hardly have any courses near the downtown area as it's mostly city...but there's some within say, a 20-25 minute drive that are quite nice. The high end clubs like Royal Montreal are tough to get on without knowing someone. From downtown, Royal is a good drive too, probably 30-45 minutes depending where downtown you are staying. You have to take the highway and then even when you get off you have to drive through a couple of cities and then take a bridge off-island.

My favorite public courses near Montreal are 4Domaines which is north of the city. Course #2 there has very nice white-sand bunkers and plays 7000yds from the tips. But despite that it's quite playable, wide fairways and nice scenery. The only issue with May is if it's early may it might still be cold and wet, and the nice wide sand and trees might not be fully "in" yet. And the course is quite nice when it is....cost is about 75$ and it's maybe 20 minutes north of the city

Another great course is the Irish course at "ile de montreal" which from downtown is probably a 20 minutes drive east. It's a links style course designed to emulate playing in the UK. The designer is an irishman....it's a really cool course with some quirky links stuff you don't get too much. It's generally regarded as one of the tougher courses in the Montreal area

There is also "Le Versant" which is maybe a 25-30 minute drive depending on where you are staying. There are 3 courses there. The "Des Seigneurs" course is the nicest. This is a huge land space out in the boonies...the "Des Braves" course is also very nice...you could go out early and play 36.

Those are the 3 public courses i play most regularly that are moderately close to downtown

Another very nice public course is called "the falcon" out in Hudson. But if you are downtown that's probably a 40-50 minute drive west of the city. It's a very nice track though (http://www.falcongolf.ca/)

Depending on the day, and my schedule, i also might be able to play with you if you are looking (not sure if you have a foursome). My private club is fairly nice, but it would also be a drive for you (about the same as the Falcon...in fact it's very close to the Falcon)

Heard from members St Raphael was not in great shape the last two years

the public course, which is likely the one the OP would have to play....was not in great shape that is definitely correct. With where he is staying (downtown) yeah there's likely a bunch of courses more worth it then driving 45 minutes to play Ste Raph....Plus if it's one of their after 12:30 specials the course is sometimes littered with hooligans

Live area and any of these would be great choices. Another one to throw out there is http://www.golfatlantide.com/ . good test and always in great shape. Good 19th hole also

I love the members course at Atlantide, it's an underrated track! And to your point, it usually gets into better shape earlier in the year then most. You can play that course in April and have it running smooth

It's even better now that they took all the best holes from Don Quichotte too!

Yeah and some of the best views with it being right on the water. Especially the signature hole island green par 3.

Guys, ended up at Atlantide. GREAT choice. Beautiful island, fantastic views, and a super course. Missed a lil birdie putt on the peninsula green too... boo. I rented their "top end" clubs - which happened to be brand new, take-the-wrapper-off 2015 Titleist gear. Incredible. LOVED Montreal.

Nice! I played there a couple of weeks ago and the course was in good shape. The 3 hole stretch on the water on the back 9 is very nice
