Trip Advice June -- Where to go in Middle America?

Recommended Posts

Looking to put together a trip for 4-8 guys in the June time frame. We have people from Hawaii, CA, Texas, and Alabama. Trying to find a good middle location with lots of good golf in a close proximity. Some driving is ok especially from the airport to the destination, but don't really want to have to drive an hour or two every day after playing (i.e. Robert Trent Jones golf trail). Don't really care about having a night life scene (bandon at night was just fine). Just looking to play as much golf as possible in a 3-4 day trip, places with unlimited . Don't really know much about golf in the middle of the US, but there has to be some good options right. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Cheers!

Colorado is awesome. You could stay up in northern Denver and play some great courses. You could also call Ballyneal and try getting on there(brilliant course).

Of course Chicago area or Wisconsin or Michigan areas. Plenty of info from wrxers can be found here if you search. They have helped me many times.

Arizona while not in the middle would provide you plenty of golf and great rates...just hot!

Branson or Lake of the Ozarks MO, you can view some great scenery at the lake after a round or pick up a show in Branson. Would highly recommend Big Cedar lodge as a place to stay, tons of great golf in the area at a reasonable price. Colorado has great weather in the summer, and some lovely views and great beer.

We did Arizona in late june last year. Was a little on the warm side for our tastes
[/quote]AZ in the winter is the best, in June I would rather stay home.

Is cost an issue? If not, the Kohler, WI area is the winner. All 4 Kohler courses are top 100 public. A mile from there is The Bull at Pinehurst Farms which is also top 100 public. And on your way back to Milwaukee you can stop and hit your 6th top 100 public at Erin Hills. Again, if cost is NOT an issue.

Great recommendation. One of the best golf destinations out there. Great golf. Great area. Great people.

Biloxi.... We have a group that goes every year.. some really good golf courses and you can stay in a casino. and most of all its CHEAP.
we do 4 nights and 4 18s and 3 nine hole scrambles is 600 bucks a guy if you share rooms.
The Grand Bear
Shell Landing
The Bridges
are 3 of the courses I have enjoyed the most out there.

The Prairie Club has stay and play packages with unlimited golf. You would be stuck playing the two and a half courses at the club as there is not anything nearby. The group I travel with likes to play courses more than once--I don't know your groups preference. The HORSE course is a nice change and makes for a lot of fun. Take out a case of beer and challenge the group hole by hole.

I'd check out brainerdgolftrail.com. 2.5 hours north of Minneapolis. Great golf, comfortable weather, abundant lakes, great scenery, affordable, and in mid-June it's light out til LATE which means more time for golf. (9:10pm sunset in mid-June makes 36 holes a day a snap). Cragun's two courses, The Classic, Deacon's Lodge, Golden Eagle, and The Pines will keep you busy.

If you go to the Branson courses, send me a PM as I live 40 min north in Springfield Mo. Like someone said, Rivercut in Springfield is a great course as well. They gave a Buy.com qualifier there about every year. Plus it is 3 minutes from my house.

Branson is tough to beat in terms of quality golf, price and proximity. As others have said, Rivercut in Springfield is a great public track. Buffalo Ridge is phenomenal. It's one of my all time favorite tracks and I've played a fair number of top 100 US courses. Payne Stewart is arguably the toughest course in the state and the layout is beautiful. Ledgestone is the most underrated course in the area. Everyone brags on Payne Stewart and Buffalo Ridge, but Ledgestone is the same caliber. Top of the Rock is a must since it's said to be the best par 3 course in the world. (Watch out for the sinkhole that just emerged)
