Money games

Recommended Posts

I have heard many friends describe great getaways with a large number of golfers, where they play multiple courses and the different formats are great. Could someone give me a run down of fun money games for 8 guys playing 5 rounds/ and or if this has been discussed in the past share a link. Thanks

We do an 8 man 5 round trip every year. Here is how we do it.

2 man blind draw of net scores. (always done after the round). This way you're not rooting against anyone, cause you don't know if that guy might be your partner.

$20 per man per round.

1st place team gets $80
2nd place team gets $40
close up on all par 3's get $10 ea

We do 36 hole days on our trips. Morning round Low ball between two partners vs other 5 groups (we do 12 guys). Afternoon round when everyone is a little mentally tired we do a pretty fun game called 1,2,3,4. You play with your foursome vs the other foursomes. The game is count one net ball for the first 6 holes, 2 net balls for the next 6, 3 net balls for the next 5, and then all four balls on 18. Kind of fun and works great with a variety of handicaps.

Thanks everyone...I was considering "Quota" , seems like a fair game with handicaps. I'm sure a little best ball and maybe a yellow ball. CP's always...

[*]Golf Poker Chips is a great game
[*]Blind draw as mentioned
[*]3 sixes: each player draws 2 names at beginning of round, player uses 1st 6 holes of 1st name and 2nd 6 holes of second name and last 6 holes of own score. You can also just do it with 1 name and 9 holes.
[*]Callaway scoring
[*]Blind Skins: Holes(3-6) picked at end of round
[/list]

Just curious. What stops everyone from just playing like crap on their first 12 holes since everyone uses their scores for those?

Good question....Nothing really...but that means a bunch of golfers are consciously trying to play as bad as possible and then have to hope their own 6 holes are enough to win? The reason it works is that no one really goes out of their way to play bad. Plus, since you use 2 other peoples scores you have to have 2 people who are corrupt enough to do such a thing. Plus you would need to know how bad you have to shoot...which you really don't. If you have people willing to do so...I would recommend they give up the game!

I have played this format dozens of time and everyone enjoyed it and not once did the subject you queried is even get brought up.

I am in charge of a 12 man group that makes an annual trip and we play 72 holes spread out over two days. We have a low gross and low net 72 hole champion. The winner of each gets an old green sport coat the we bought at a thrift store. Each round you play with a different group. We have a four man game, with different formats for each round. (Low gross 2 scores, low net 2 scores, stableford group score and a best score+worst score total. This seams to keep it interesting for everyone. Also, everyone is everyone's partner for a total net best ball tournament. We have a Calcutta the night before the first round to sell off the teams. Most people also play various games withing their group. It costs everyone $100 to enter. $20 to low gross, $20 to low net, $10 for each of the 4 team games and $20 to the partner best ball. We have this in a resort area and the tie breaker is decided by a best of three event. Those include putt putt match, go cart race and who wins the most tickets on arcade games with $5. Figuring out the scoring is a but of an event, but it's a blast. We also throw in $20 for a skins game. $10 net/$10 gross. The money is just to make it fun, but at least if gives you something to play for.
