he can say what he wants, but to think he can say it without consequence, is naive. right or wrong, he may be apologizing for those comments later.

Consequence from who? Who's going to do anything about it? Is Greg Norman gonna ban him from buying his wine? Not let him buy his grass for his lawn?

Billy who?
That would be the guy who won a ten million dollar fedex cup last year. If you're going to dis someone, pick on Tiger like everyone else.
Only majors count in golf. Fedex cup is just money on the side.

Lots of smart people have stated that this is the future of economically sustainable golf on the Pacific Coast. Hybrid greens. The USGA is always trying to showcase designs like this. Just like last year, they wanted lots of the water-sucking rough torn out.

Billy, I understand you don't like it. And you're free to express your opinion. But the way you've expressed yourself makes you seem a bit emotional and short-sighted.

Not to mention the argument rings hollow when the leaderboard is full of top-10 players.

I don't think he made himself look stupid at all. Billy is always going to say what's on his mind and if somebody doesn't like it, tough sh!t. I wish everybody would do it. Makes me want to puke with all the politically correct crap that comes out of most interviews.

Jack Nicklaus always said he loved to listen to fellow players complain about a golf course because he figured for every one who did, it was one less person he would have to beat that week.

Situation 1: Player gives cordial and vanilla corporate responses in interview ("Would've been nice to make a few more putts, just happy to be here").
Wrx response: These guys are robots and have no personality.

Situation 2: Player speaks their mind in the heat of the moment and essentially summarizes the vast majority of their peers' opinions.
Wrx response: He's a tool/fool/whiny b***h/etc.

Can't win here.
It's even funnier coming from a group who would make a 20 page thread about arriving at a course and finding out the greens were punched but they weren't told and their $20 prepaid greens fees weren't refundable.

Ha! Was just gonna say,

Anybody remember Jack complaining?

Different time. But there was a time athletes realized,

We watch to see them play, not talk and definitely not whine.

And Billy said the course punishes good putters and rewards average putters? Is that right?

Way to denigrate the winner.

He was basically saying the same thing dozens of other players have said. Obviously there's a reason so many players are complaining. I honestly like the up front blunt approach. I'd rather have that than the emotionless/PC/ rehearsed interviews some of these guys give.

The reason is they ALWAYS complain about the greens at the US Open when it's played on the West Coast.

Why does anyone act like this is new or unique?

After missing the cut, Justin Rose complained: “I have to say these are the worst greens I have ever played on at a US Open.”

The Aussie went further, saying: “The old holes that have been cut over time all showed up. These are probably the worst greens I’ve ever putted on.”
Rose was joined in the Whingers’ Circle by Ernie Els and Robert Allenby.

The South African said: "You really can’t have a go at anything. If you are 25 to 35 feet away, you almost have to three-putt and not do anything stupid.”

These guys are spoiled f****** prima donnas used to putting on pool table greens that are prefection. You have to try to miss a 5 footer on some of the tour greens.

How often is it necessary to define a green with white dots?! How often do you see putts bounce in the air and lose a lot of distance? How often can you not tell the green while watching on TV?

The greens were/are BAD.

Billy got a little over the top on the course with the putter slam. (Esp. since he was not in last group!) Still he had a point in the greens being bad. I'm not sure that they will affect who comes out on top over 72 holes however since everyone is having the same problems. Plus the rest of the course seems very demanding.
