New to Arizona (Scottsdale), looking for people to play with

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone, I just moved with my wife from the East Coast to Scottsdale a couple of weeks ago. We don't have any family or friends here, and now that we are settled in I'd love to find people to play with. Coming from a country club back East with regular money games and events to going out as a single every Saturday and Sunday (I've played probably 15 rounds since I got here) kind of sucks. We joined the Village at DC Ranch for fitness and tennis but I haven't met any golfers there yet. I've toured a few country clubs but the ones that aren't prohibitively expensive to join, I have found the membership to be seasonal or too old for my liking (I'm 35) - I did join the Premier Golf Club so that I could transfer my GHIN index at least.

If anyone wants to play shoot me a PM or respond here - I'm about a 13 index, and live up near Troon but can play anywhere - I'm available to play Saturday and Sunday mornings, and would love to meet other golfers and residents.

Welcome to the Valley Bdawk. We have a pretty active group of guys here so i'm sure you will find plenty of people to play with. I haven't met many members that like to gamble on the course a lot though so we may not be able to help you there.

Thanks Blake, appreciate the welcome. Loving the Valley so far. More interested in meeting and playing with other golfers, don't need money games to have a good time (and believe me, we spent plenty of money getting here so definitely not high on my priority list :))

Welcome to town. I'm a Premier Club member too, so I make it to several of their events each year. It's a pretty good group overall, but a fair amount of middle-aged heavy drinkers too. I'm a year younger than you and I'm almost always the youngest guy out there by a few years.

i just played in the event at lookout mountain on saturday and i can attest to what you wrote, the cart girl was definitely busy - was a well run event but the pace was very slow (5+ hr round) which i could attribute some to the course being tough on those in the C flight compared to a course like mccormick where they can dribble it off the tee and spray it without too many issues... saw a lot of re-tee'd shots - it was also cart path only for the first hour due to the rain from friday - i'll play in more events this summer because i like the format, the addition of skins keeps you interested and everyone i talked to seemed nice, though i wasn't able to hang around after due to the length of the round

we decided to apply to join troon country club - it's less than a mile from our front door and the facility is impressive so it almost seemed like a no brainer

That place looks awesome, just be careful of the rattlesnakes. I played with a guy that worked there once and he said there are countless rattlers on that course. He said he loved it because people who lived on the course would call him if they had one in their yard to come take it away and he'd get tipped like $100 for each one haha.

Yeah, pace of play can be pretty bad due to the C-flight guys. They often get bogged down with crappy golf and Coors light and screw things up. There have been events where us in the A flight finish literally 60+ minutes before the C flight.
