im not in the mood for tournaments

I'm in a big crisis, I have worked so hard for so long to play my upcoming tournaments. They are pretty big because some golf coaches are coming to see me play, but there's a problem, I don'tfeel like playing, I don't feel like going to play. Its wired. Usually I am ready to go, I know I'm going to play great, great chanses to win, favors are on me but what can I do to fix this problem????

Sounds like fear of failure to me.

 

When competing, remember to "play"---have fun. Every shot is an interesting challenge to attempt.

 

There is only you and the golf course --- nothing/no one else are "in play."

 

Know this --- every single super-successful businessman I know has had huge failures. It's not uncommon to hear about bankruptcies on the path to financial success. We all remember some of Tiger's great recovery shots, correct? Well, he had to hit a "stinker" before it that put him in position to have to "recover", no?

 

Getting to the teebox in your situation --- that's your success. Everything else is gravy.

 

Tee it up, pick a specific target, hit to that target----move to the next shot, pick a target, etc. Target, target, target....that's your focus. And playing!

I agree with Asleep, just get out there and have fun. If you have worked hard enough to get your game to the point where schools would come and watch you, then you obviously have some talent. Take it hole by hole, and shot by shot and you will do well.

 

The only reason you would need to worry is if they ask you to spell. :rolleyes:

I also agree with Asleep. Especially the part about take each shot as a new challenge.

 

I used to get upset when I played and hit a bad shot (see my index....happens a LOT!!! and I am talking back when I was a 16 index). Anyway, I did not play much for several years and now, since I have no expectations, I can go for shots that used to stress me out because I thought too much about score and screwing up my round.

 

Now, after hitting a bad shot, I see it as an opportunity to scramble and see what kind of shot I can hit (being realistic and not taking stupid chances, of course - well at least not always taking stupid chances after all, it IS a game and I do not make a LIVING doing it). When hitting out of trees (been there a lot recently), I am hitting low hard cuts, straight punches, high draws, high fades, etc with seeming ease (knocking on wood here - my last 4 rounds have had amazing success at getting through small gaps). It is FUN, too!!! I just LOVE seeing one of those shots pulled off! Heck, just yesterday, I had a par 5, was in the trees and had two options: 1. punch out almost sideways and hit a 4 iron to the green to get on in 3 or 2. take a low punch through a smaller opening but directly on line with the green. When for the riskier one and ran it up the slope and onto the front edge of the green, 12 feet away for eagle! now THAT was fun!! And not only was it an opportunity to try that shot but it gave me confidence for future attempts (needed it later in same round and pulled off again). PLUS, it takes pressure of your other shots when you know you can recover well.

 

So have fun and treat every shot as an opportunity to execute something! If you hit a bad shot, there is nothing you can do about it but recover somehow!

I am in the same boat. If I don't win, I am not happy. I am not a sore loser or anything like that but losing really ticks me off and makes me work harder.
