Tons of choices. I'm a member at eagles landing. It's in fantastic shape. Tee to green. The greens are little slow due to the heat. The greens are bent.
If your on the south side try it.

I'm a Club Corp member who lives in Atlanta. Here's how I'd parse them out based on location. (In case you weren't aware, driving long distances in ATL, especially any time close to rush hour, is the worst).

North:
(1) The Manor: A superb Tom Watson design. Greens are usually very fast and in super condition. My favorite course in the ATL area that isn't Peachtree or AAC. Only downside I can think of is that it's a bit of a haul and the course definitely requires a few rounds before you can post a decent score. There are a few semi-blind tee shots and features that are not very intuitive the first few times you play it. If you go there, make sure your miss is short of the green. Anything long is probably in a hazard or a very difficult up and down.
(2) Atlanta National: It has a few tricked out holes but is very unique. Solid course, though I wouldn't want to play it every weekend.

West:
(1) Mirror Lake Mountain: great greens and course design. Fun track with a couple great risk/reward shots.
(2) Chapel Hills: Short but interesting and probably a good 13 miles closer to the city than any other CC track.

South:
Heron Bay: Bomber track. Wide open with fairly large greens, plays nearly 7400 from the tips. Good place to play because what you see is what you get.
Eagles Landing is good too. I just hate a couple holes out there and have never been able to card a round at or under my handicap.

Feel free to shoot me a message if you'd like some people to play with. My girlfriend and I play every Saturday and Sunday at Atlanta-area clubcorp courses, though we have a few trips scheduled in the next few weeks.

Thanks guys. What about CC of the South and White Columns?

Personally, I hate CCS. The staff acts super snobby for literally no reason, and I've been treated very rudely there multiple times. Also, I think the course is pretty tricked out. There are some good holes but also a few profoundly stupid ones. # 2, 6, 13, 15, and 16 are just dumb. I haven't played there in months, so I can't speak to the condition. Last time I played, the lining between the fairway and green was visible, plus the club doesn't spend enough money to maintain bentgrass greens.

White Columns is fine, just sort of a blah Fazio design. It's fairly tight and tree-lined, easy to have a few big numbers. I played there for the first time a few weeks ago. The course wasn't in bad shape but not as good as I'd expect. Tee boxes were very furry, but the greens were rolling ok--though I found them difficult to read. White Columns is a much better course. Not a bad place to get a round in, but I wouldn't want to be a member.

I am a White Columns ONE member and our course is good condition. The recent rain has made everything grow and fairway aeration has been going on this week. I play Atlanta National, WC and The Manor on a regular basis and each course has its challenges. The greens at WC are slower due to the Crenshaw bent and are very receptive. I like the AN and TM as they are firmer and faster tee to green. They all have holes that require some strategy and recommend playing with someone that knows the course.

I have played Polo in the last month, average track but stays wet due to the lay of the land. Laurel Springs has bermuda greens that are very firm and tough to stop the ball. I have not played CCS yet. I have heard the new course Brookfield is not very friendly layout but i am going to give it a chance soon. The Cannongate courses are mostly public and ok tracks but I prefer the private clubs. The Frog on the west side of town is a great course, Bentwater is solid but haven't played there in a while.

I recommend checking the calendar schedules closely as there are many events at some of these courses. Also, the club line does not do a good job of pairing up a single which is mostly how I play. Some courses are walkable and others are not recommended.

Let me know when you are in town, be glad to play with you on North side.

^ it was a blast. Played White Columns and Atlanta National. Both good courses and in good shape. Like all bent grass greens this time of year both were wet and a little hairy. Both staffs were great.

Also went to The Commerce Club and Buckhead Club for dinner. Great meals at both facilities. With the 20% service charge, tax and full alcohol charge the final tally is not what I would call a cheap.

Overall a nice few days.

I'm heading to Atlanta next week to pick up my car that was shipped there from overseas. Making it a long weekend and looking to play some golf. Last time I was in Atlanta there were only a few club corps courses, now there are tons.

Down south it looks like the recommendation is Eagle's Landing. I'm not a big fan of courses with housing on all sides and the only course that looks like there is no housing is Cannongate 1 Golf Club (the other options are Braelin, Heron Bay and GA National).

Saturday I'm looking at trying to play 36.

The Manor (Watson), White Columns (Fazio), Atlanta National (Dye), Northwood, Windermere and Olde Atlanta all look like they are contenders.

I'm thinking the trip will look like this if the times work out:

Eagles Landing on Friday afternoon.

White Columns and The Manor on Saturday

Atlanta National Sunday morning.

Sounds like the way to go right?

Eagles Landing just punched their greens a few days ago. Go play Planterra Ridge instead. It's a better golf course right now and has practically no houses on the front nine. There's a huge lake on the back nine so all the houses are typically only on one side of each golf hole.

In fact, I'd call all the courses you listed and see if anyone else punched, just in case.

White Columns was punched Sep 1st, The Manor course last week. Atlanta National was punched the last week of August. White Columns is healing fast and green speeds are increasing the last 2 weekends. I have not played National and Manor since they were punched. Let me know your tee time on Saturday at White Columns and I will try and play with you.
