KB Tour Shafts

Designed for better players, the KBS Tour shaft was engineered with ‘moment of inertia analysis’ to increase stability from ‘grip to clubhead’ to enhance the results of well-executed swings. By reducing the mass and radius of each step in equal proportions along the shaft’s center line, the KBS Tour shaft delivers optimum stability resulting in efficient energy transfer from the player’s hands to the clubhead. In addition, the KBS Tour shaft incorporated step-by-step Moment of Inertia analysis to reduce shaft ‘interference’ during a player’s well-executed swing.

Have just recieved a set with Miura CB 202's on them, 1" long. Loft and lie were way off so had to have that adjusted, then found they were a D6 at 1" over, so having them cut down and will pick up and range them tomorrow, play Fri. Will give a detailed review this week end. HOWEVER, these are really sensitive to cutinng apparently. Cut 1st (3 iron) 3/4" and then had to go an additional 1/16" to get to D2. Heads apparantly have some weight variance and as a conequence, have to trim each shaft differently. They (KB Tour) seem to be very sensitive to butt trimming. I did play them as a D6 after setting loft and lie for 18, and I can say ball flight and spin are ideal. Ball flight came down to almost exactly where I wanted with a rising penetrating flight. 8 iron on down to PW, were all the same, ball was no more than 14" behind pitch mark. With DG S300's 9 and PW were spinning out of control, never knew where they were going to stop, sometimes off the green. So right away, spin is under control and flight is good. Feel is wonderful at impact as well, very powerful release of tip section. All in all, I'm very happy with them, great shafts. And by the way, they ARE NOT a re-invented Rifle, Rifle isn't even close to these.

got a new 5.5 softstepped set and have tried it in a 6 iron

only one round under my belt and it's very different than the nippon 1150 stiffs.

they make the club sound and feel clickier while the nippons make it smoother and softer.

i guess some people term this as lively!

they are about the same distance, maybe a little longer for me since the flight is lower than the nippons.

i find that i have to swing different to get the most out of these

i might need an adjustment period before going into more detailed of a review

btw..i still can hook the living crap out of these, i don't know why or how they would reduce your hook.

when the clubbuilder spined and flo'd this, there was only a 2cpm difference around the shaft, not too bad.

might not worth the extra money and effort and just install it anyway you want.

i did however have to use a 6g tip weight to get it to D2 at standard 37.75 5 iron length.

I just got them installed on my X forged irons. Spent a good hour today hitting them on the launch monitor. They are very soft feeling, I got them in a 5.5 flex. For me I think they spin a big to much back and side spin. I am drawing the ball more, which is fine, im on target which is good.

AS far as yardage its the same as the DG S300's I had, no major change.

I am going to give them a run on the course Friday, I saved my S300's just in case.

Is anyone else feeling what i am?

Anyone try the KB Tour 90?

How do they compare to DGSL (vs. KB Tour 90)?

Yes, currently use the DGSLS300 in my 695CB, but wanted something with a slightly higher flight. So I tried the KB Tour 90 (stiff) in the 8 iron. What I can say is they felt more stout without additional headweight. Meaning the head felt light and much tighter than the DGSL. The balance never felt right, I suspect the counter balance at this lower weight doesn't quit fit my swing profile. I have great success with the 120g KBT 5.5 in my TM RAC TP MB. The head weight is considerably higher, but doesn't swing heavy because of the counter balance. Recommend you try a single iron before committing to the set.

hi

what heads did you put the KB's in to use a 6 gram tip weight to get to D2

im planning on putting 5.5's in either my R7 TP's that currently have black gold S

or the New Taylor Made Tour Preferred Burner Irons

i have read that you lose swingweight point when changing to KB, i have no swingweighting machine, so im pretty much gonna have to guess and experiment with one club first

thanks

Can anyone shed some light/detail into the playing characteristics of these shafts vs Black Gold or PX?

I also would like to know this as well toss Tour Concept in the mix. I was thinking of putting something else in my new Adams A4 Tech Irons. I play nippons in my Nickent 3DX and Srixon I701 tours. The DGSL in the Adams gives me a higher ball flight than my nippons do in the others. Anyone have experience they can share? I have emailed KB Shafts without a reply.

thanks all

im currently trying out the KB 6.5's (softstepped x2 & Neutral Spined) in mizuno mp-60

i have the shafts in just the 4 / 6 & 9 iron's at the moment

my MP-60s were originally DGS300 @ +1" with SW of D6-D8 - i dont play irons at +1", i got this set for a very cheap price!

because the S300 were 1" longer, Mizuno use their Lighter Weight "B" heads, when installing KB you loose 2-3 Swingweight points because they are Butt Stiff and Do Not have a reinforced tip

i have built my 3 irons with KB at +0.5" longer, ive added a 10 gram tip wate and 4 grams of lead tape on back of head to get a D4 swingweight (remember i had lighter than normal heads to start with, you would prob only have to add half the weight i did with STD weighted heads)

ive been hitting these irons for a few weeks now, they feel very stiff even though they are softstepped twice, and the butt is defo stiff like PX. KB say that softstepping twice should give a 5.8-5.9 Frequency

The KB's definatley go tonnes straighter, so trust me everything you already read about these giving you a straighter ball flight is 100% True!, im also hitting the sweetspot more with them

im getting quite a Flat ball flight, i expected them to go higher than the S300 but they don't. I would say i have defo lost half a clubs distance in the lofted iron's, but not in the longer ones.

i have played PX in 3 different iron sets and the KB performs very similar but with less spin, is straighter and doesnt feel as harsh, but in my opinion they dont feel as soft as all the Hype says. distance is about the same as PX for me

i have recently stopped playing Black Gold S in R7 TP's. compared to the black golds i would say the KB feel slightly harder, Ball flight is lower and straighter. Distance with the KB's is very close to the Black Golds for me

I have been playing the KB Tours in some Cobra MBs now for a couple months. They are stiff, which translates to 6.5, but I think they feel more like 6.0. I can only speak in terms of feel: The Nippon 1150s are solid, but austere, while the KBs have what I think of as an enhanced Rifle feel. Certainly more feedback than Project X and S300. The only thing that might be comparable is the Nippon (orange) Super Peen, which it is more expensive than most of these.

Ball flight with the KBs seems to be lower and shallower overall, but with about the same distance.

I love em, play them in 3-AW, 6.5's. I just wish they were heavier. I do think they are the straightest iron shafts I have played. And I have played them all, PX, Black Gold, Rifle, X100, S300, S400, X700 DG Tour's, TT Tour Concepts, Apollo Hump, Nippin 1150 GH Tour, etc...

After two range sessions with the KBS Tour 5.5 (120g weight) I'm dumping them for PX 6.0.

I just couldn't get used to the counter-balancing. Really made the shafts feel like they weighed 60g instead of 120g. Ball flight was what I expected, a bit higher than PX and noticably more so than my DG X-100. I got used to them okay in the scoring irons probably because I could control the shorter club regardless of the "light feeling" heads but I really struggled to hit anything straight in the long and mid irons. It felt like there was a feather on the end of the shaft instead of a club-head.

With the mid-irons the ball also didn't seem to have as great of ball speed either, ball flight was high and kinda dead. I guess the short and simple is they are just not for me.

Just make sure you demo before buying...I'm lucky that I have a club-fitter who is willing to accept them as a return and just swap 'em out for something else, otherwise I'd be SOL.

Did you weight the head to get to conventional SW's Keith? With mine i got them back up to D2-3.

I did not, that's why they feel so off. the SWs in the 4-9 iron are in the high C range and the PW was a D0 (that's w/ an extra 1/2" of length over the r7 TP standard-- my 5 iron = 38.25")

I did try about a 2-3 inch strip of lead tape in the cavity and it felt better, but I still didn't love the ball flight (I've always been a very high ball hitter) so I'm going to go w/ the PX's.

I've have been playing Tour Flighted Rifle 5.5's and I want to play a little heavier shaft. I was interested in the KBS Tour shafts (or Black Nickel version....hmmmmmmm?) in a regular/.5" tipped.

Any opinions on any of these shafts and how a regular/.5" tipped KBS stack up against a Project X 5.0 or DGR300 .5" tipped?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
