Don't make me take off the glove

Recommended Posts

I recently changed my putter grip and in order to do it correctly I have to take of my glove. That means 18 times a round I'm taking off my glove. 18 times, I'm putting it back on. I hate taking off my glove every time, it drives my nuts.

Is there a magical glove that takes itself off an on so I no longer have to do it?

Or perhaps some kind of superpower accrued by a spider bite or something that could allow me to grow and recede a golf glove whenever I need it? Like, Spider man without the man. More like, Spider Hand.

I take my glove off after every shot. It's not something I even think about, I just do it.
Keep trying it. In no time you won't even be conscious of having removed it.

You could try playing without a glove. I've done it for years and like it better.

I take my glove off for putting and whenever I have time between shots. It helps to keep the glove dry when its hot and avoids a goofy tan line.

In Florida if I didn't at least take it off to putt I'd go through 5 a round just from sweat. Besides feeling the putter, it's a great breather for my hand and the glove.

Strange......I thought everyone took their gloves off to putt, then just put it back on before their next tee shot. My only concern was getting it to hang halfway out of my back pocket so that just the 4 fingers were showing just like the pros do. By the way, I gave up on this a long time ago and just stick my glove in my front pocket while I'm on the green!

Glove off after every shot. Keeps it somewhat dry and I don't get the golfers white hand suntan line syndrome.

Remove your glove as you wish but for for the love of all things sacred PLEASE put the thing back on in a timely fashion. I cannot count the times I have seen guys be the 4th to hit off the next tee and stand there peering down the fairway imitating Tommy Tourstop as they finally remove their glove from the back pocket and ceremoniously reapply it as they initiate their " pre-shot" routine.

Why would anyone leave it on to putt besides the annoyance of taking it on and off?

The reason for the glove, and tapered grips, is so the club doesn't fly out of your hand at high speed during a swing.

If that's happening on your putt, you're doing it wrong.

Good one! I'm envisioning a super fast putting swing with the club boomeranging off the green.

I take my glove off inside 100 yards. Gives me a better feel for the club.

I simply cannot imagine why any good golfer, any golfer who can actually play the game, would ever even consider putting with a glove on.

Oh wait ...

Good call and point conceded.

I will counter with that the VAST majority of Tour golfers don't use a glove to putt and when Nicklaus was around the greens were much slower so having touch wasn't as important as it is now. Also, he'd swing the putter faster so maybe it necessitated a glove.

It's odd that he's the only great that does. It'd be nice to have a glove contract. Leaving it on full time I'd sweat through it every 3 holes on warm days.

Ha! I found yesterday I was the guy forgetting to put the glove back on in a timely fashion. It annoyed me as much as it did my playing partners. I am putting better without the glove which is what really matters. It perturbs me when the glove is a soggy rag and I have to stick my hand back into it thought. Its like putting on a discarded prophylactic, aint nobody got time for that.

Never take my glove off during a round. Guy I first played a lot of golf with never took his off, so neither did I. Now, I can't stand the feel of two bare hands even when putting. I went to the driving range once and forgot a glove -- ended up leaving since it was too strange a feeling!

Seems to me that it is simply personal preference and how you grew up playing. I have always left my glove on from the first tee through the final putt. i see no reason I'd ever change.
