Over the last 3 months I have tried Pro V1, Pro V 1 X, Callaway Tour iX, Tour I, HX Hot, NXT Tour and The Nike OP. I have to say I liked all of these (The HX Hot did not have much spin). The biggest thing for me was the durability and the spin, They all went roughly the same distance (For Me). Its interesting though, because after hitting at least a dozen of each, my results are very different to many others on this site.

For me, the NOP is the best ball, I do not hack it to pieces like the ProV1X and the Tour iX, it stops great, its long off the tee and plays well in the wind, so I am sold

I just played two rounds with Pro V1s, never could stomach purchasing them before but I found some logo overruns new for $30/dozen. They really did make a big difference in my short game, as I could fire at the pin and trust they wouldn't release too far, whereas the NXT Tour I have to chip/pitch short of the pin and that effectively gives me much less green to work with, leaving some chips that are really tough.

I'd like to stay with them if I can keep not losing very many. We'll see!

2008 taylor made tp red ldp - taking 5 dozen to ireland for a 2 week golf only trip (the ball is good in the wind and seems to have low sidespin off my driver)

recently shot my 2 best rounds with these balls (81 and 80) - my handicap last year was a 16 playing titleist nxt tours exclusively

this year i have tested the cally tour i and ix , 07 and 08 nike one black , srixon zurc , taylor made tp black ldp and burner tour ldp

and for my money i like the 08 tp red the best as i prefer a bit of roll out after my iron shots land on the green but still need some short game spin and i find the 08 tp red is better than the Titleist nxt tour(my previous favourite ball) when it comes to short game stopping power - the fact that the 08 tp red holds its line better in the air than balls such as the pro v1 or b330s makes it a winner all around

I am gaming the Pro V1x and the TP LDP Red. They both seem to perform well although I have found that I think the Pro V on shots under 100 yrds seems to stop faster than the TP. But I also have Vokey SM wedges and if I hit a Pro V flush with them the ball is cut and needs to be replaced. I have a hard time replacing balls every couple of holes because of wear and not do to bad play.

I play the Wilson Staff 50's.... I can get them for $16 a dozen, personalized, from TGW.com and they are the softest and most easily controlled ball around the green that I have ever played.... Plus, when I want to tempo back my driver and get more control I don't lose any distance - the lower compression really let's it fly then.....

Played with GolfBallSelector.com and finally got the questions answered the "right" way...for me, anyway.

I've tried them all this spring/summer:

  • Gamer - shreds/skins
  • Hot Bite - see Gamer
  • TM Black - one of the longest but felt hard to me (not as bad as the old TMs, though!)
  • NOP - solid ball, but felt a little "clicky" on a non-insert putter
  • B330S - overall good performer.....probably option #3 for me.

Then played the Cally Tour i and was sold on that until I tried Srixon.

The Z-URS does everything I need - longer drives, mid irons that hop-and-stop, and wedges that stick. Feels good of a non-insert putter also.

So, #1a is Z-URS and #1b is Tour i
