2008 GolfLogix Lay-Up Distances

Not Getting Lay-Up Distances
I have the 2008 model of the GolfLogix GPS system (the black one). First of all, it's a great GPS system and very easy to use. The large numbers make it a breeze to check your distances. The distances are on point with my playing partners' Skycaddie 2.5.

In the first two rounds, my GolfLogix consistently gave me lay-up distances. Sometimes, it gave several layup distances (100, 125, 150) in one hole. I've now played about 8 rounds with it and in the past 6 rounds, the GolfLogix did not give me any layup distances (even on the courses that I first used it on when it did give layup distances).

Mind you, I know it's "easy" to figure out the lay-up distance by merely subtracting from the total distance to the green. But, why bother figuring it out when the machine is "supposed" to do it for you?

Any GolfLogix owners experience this? If so, how did you remedy the problem?

I have the same model and have used it five times. I never saw the intermediate distances of 150, 125, and 100. After my third round, I emailed them and in about two days, they sent an updated version of the course. On my next round out, I was able to see the intermediate distances on a different course. You have to request that they map those out, but, they get back to you quickly via email.

I really like the unit and get about three rounds out of a pair of batteries. Bought a carry case online for $16, so it clips to my bag or when I walk, it has a "handlebar" velcro strap. Compared the distances to several cart GPS systems and it was spot on.

I used mine for the first time yesterday so I am no expert. And, I barely skimmed the manual before I took it out. But, sometimes it seemed like I had to hit the page up or page down button to get the lay up distances and distances to the hazards. Then hitting the page up or page down took me back to looking at the distance to the center of the green.

I sent an email to Golflogix on the 30th regarding updating layup distances for a course I played on Monday and received an email back today with notification of updates. Great service! :russian_roulette:

Let me know if you're now getting those layup distances.

I did the same about a week ago. I emailed them one day and got an answer the next day. They updated the courses I mentioned but still the same result...no layup distances. Oh well. I emailed them again about a course I played recently and again got an update. We'll see if it works this time. Stay tuned...

I saw to bunker and carry bunker, plus 150, 125 and 100 layup distances...depending on how many hazards there were. My buddies both had Busnell's and we compared and the GPS8 was within a yard or two. After awhile, they stopped pulling theirs out and just asked me for distances.

This past weekend, I played what used to be TPC Virginia Beach (now called Virginia Beach National) and I got no layup distances. Those distances would have helped me greatly. Instead, I had to take a few seconds to figure them out in my head. You'd think they'd have these data for a "nicer" course. By the way, I reloaded all my courses before I went out and played. I'm beginning to think something's wrong with my GPS8 unit.

noel228-did you email that course to golflogix and ask them to update first before you reloaded? I would have thought that some of the popular courses that I've played would have been mapped out, but, they weren't.

No not that particular course. But, I have emailed them about some other courses, they updated, I reloaded, played the course... and no layup distances.

Anyone ever get distances to hazards that aren't even there? Or at least not at the distances that's indicated. I get that a lot too.

I have both a GolfLogix 7 and an 8. The 8 has consistently given me layup yardages from day 1. Mind you, I have only played 4-5 courses with the Golflogix 8 so far. Whenever I startup the course manager, I allow it to load any updates. I have never had to delete a course.

The cool thing is from 1 course manager I can manage both GolfLogix units. They can even have seperate series of maps. It simply gives me the choice of which GPS I am loading when I start the application on my PC.
