WILSON ZIP BALL .... ATTA BOY WILSON !!!

ROBOPTI

Recommended Posts

Last week I walked into my shop and asked the gang .. "Hey - Whats a good "bang-for-the-buck" ball ... The jillion dollar dozen is getting tired.

The general consensus at my Edwin Watts was pretty much a unanimous "ROBO - Try the Zip"

I grabbed 2 dozen and away I went.

Played 18 yesterday with these - in kinda breezy conditions - and I am HUGELY IMPRESSED !!!

I am not the best at giving a technical description - so I'll just post what I saw.

Driver - VERY LONG ... Again - I was playing in a lite constant breeze. Even with that - My ball flight was lower than normal (V1X & E6 recently) .. I DEFINITELY can tell my spin was low - My run out was BIG with this - It is as long as anything I have hit recently. Good feel with driver - Feels kinda balata-like (my fav ball ever was the Titleist 100 Balata). Solid but not harsh - It tracked extremely well - Didn't spin off course - Workable - I like it.

Irons - I was getting more spin than I anticipated - NOT a bad thing - I mean in the "wow - I like that".. Good control - Fairly long - did not ballon. The main thing I noticed is that I could stick this ball. It had very good approach control. Great feel - again - not harsh - firm Balatta feel to me. It was VERY good with hybrids - Tracked well - Atta boy on irons.

Wedges - I am hitting 56/60/64 RTG+ zip grooved Cleves - BEST wedge ever IMO - This ball is AWESOME !!! with the wedge. I took a few big swipes at it - and while the zip does take a lil chunk out of everything - The Zip did very well - It got a TINY bit scarred - but not enuf where you couldnt use the same ball. But spin wise - This ball STUCK - I LOVE IT ... very accurate - I stuck my 64 a few times like a laser targeted the thing. KILLER ball with the wedge. Soft feel - but not sloppy - A+++ here too

Putter - Same kinda deal - Soft / but good feel - I use a Rife 2 bar mallet hybrid belly - I had great control and feel - It was a predictable ball for a lack of a better word.

Gents - For the $$$ - Ya can't beat it - and I WILL continue to bag it - Cuz truth be told - I did better with this ball than others - and I have never posted about a ball before

ATTA BOY WILSON !!!!!!!!!!!!! :) :) :clapping: :drinks:

Sounds like the old Wilson Hope ball. Fredo used to pimp those. Almost as long as a ProV1X with a little less spin.

Dirt cheap too. You just had to sharpie over the pink ribbon.

I have been playing them off and on for about a week now,and find that I hit them unbelievably high with most every club in the bag. Ball is also long, but I didn't care for the stopping power around the green. Similar to E6+, with a higher ball flight. Not bad for under $20.00.

I also found they had very little stopping power. I wouldn't mind so much if they were <$20, but up here in Canada they're $30 and for that price I can find plenty of alternatives that I like much better.

Curious about the swing speed of those who like the Zip.

My driver speed is low 90's....And I seem to get inconsistent distances on balls like the Zip and other lower compression balls. On a low wind day, I hit a pretty solid 7 iron 145 yards on one par 3....a few holes later I hit the same club on another par 3 and it flew 170. Tried it the next round and hit a couple of other "jumpers" out of the fairway.

But I have a buddy with a similar swing speed, who hits a low draw, and he likes the Zip.

I'm using the zip, srixon soft feel and the top flite gamer right now and I can't pick a winner just yet. I've had better rounds with the zip and gamer but I like the feel of the srixon but it seems to have more spin with the driver. To soon to tell if it's the ball or just bad swings. I'm leaning towards the zip for my full time gamer though.

i found a zip and played 2.5 rounds with it, i cant lose this thing.

The first time i hit it with my wedge 52* Mizzy, I wasnt sure where the ball went...i didnt even know whether i made contact, until i looked at the flag and saw it drop and stop next to the flag. It is that soft. It took a couple holes to get used to it off my wedges and the putter. I"m giving the PX3 a run right now, they're soft (not as soft as the zip) and i like how they play.

I'll get some zips when i run out of the px3s.

I got a couple of the Zip's through their 2-ball pack giveaway they ended a couple of months ago. Just got the balls. I had been used to playing Maxfli Noodles and Taylor Made Burner TP's.

Distance is about the same off the woods and irons. I thought they came off the driver lower. Had no problems getting height with irons or fairway woods. Ball is very soft off of all the clubs in the bag.

I had no problems spinning it out of a couple of bunkers, but the sand was wet, so...

I thought the paint scuffed easier that the other 2 balls mentioned. In fact I hit a wedge that buzzed all the wall to the green, 90 yrds, but when I got to it it didn't show any signs of hanging paint.

Never played a top of the line ball for an extended period of time so I can't compare to the Prov1's or similar balls.

Nice ball. I would put it at the same level on the Burner TP.

GPP.com has a nice price on the ball right now. Topflight Gamer logo overruns also.
