how much scuff/how long before you ditch it?

For those of average income, how scuffed is too scuffed for you? And how long do you wait to change balls when the first scuff appears?

I guess I'm referring to the ol' ProV1x cart path scuff or similar. Is that first scuff alone enough to warrant a ball switch or is that overreacting? As we all know, the balls are not cheap but if the ball's performance will be significantly affected then that is reason enough for a change, no?

I play them till they are lost. I even super glued a small torn flap once. Heck I even buy my balls pre thrashed from a used ball guy. It is always fun to blow my used scuffed ball past someones pristine new ball.

I think it depends on what you are doing. If I am playing in the tournament, I replaced upon first scuff. If I am just playing/practicing 9, then I play until I loose it.

HOWEVER, if I am playing really, really, really good, then I try to keep the ball in play as long as I can.

As long as the cover isnt cut, I keep playing it. With how expensive Pro V1s are, Id be trying to get as many shots out of it as I could.

Yes, that is correct. Another reason to use the ProV1. It is a more durable ball.

I play them till I lose them generally. I pitched one today after I lipped a birdie. The ball had a pretty decent scuff due to my MD grooves though. Golf balls are far to expensive to quite playing just because of a little cut.

LOL. I've never worn out a golf ball. There's always water, out of bounds or just unruly rough that makes them impossible to find before too long.

Funny, I don't wear out that many either. Of course, most of the cheaper two-piece balls I play don't scuff that much, unless you hit a cart path pretty squarely. Most of the time I'm too freaked out to play a ProV1 on anything more than a short par 3 because $4 is far too much to lose on one swing.

I play them until it's lost -OR- if I score an eagle with one, I'll put it away and say that's enough for today. Rest up for our next round.

 

There might also be a 3 birdie limit- once I have 3 birdies with a ball in one round- it's going ugly and out of bounds on the next tee . . . happened twice now in back to back rounds.

 

I've played nearly bald ProV1's and they still held greens. Play them until they are lost . . . if you must play new ones.

anyways I don't mind playing pretty scuffed up balls. I played most of 18 with an 07 tp black that got increasingly scuffed every time I touched it with my new x-forged lol.
