Guys Trip question

Recommended Posts

My old college golf crew is going to start a yearly ritual of meeting up to play in different locations. I'd like to get a running trophy going and was wondering if anybody had any recommendations/ideas for websites/companies/trophies? Something to keep track of the low total and their name. Thanks in advance!

Local trophy shops OP!

You will be amazed at the variety and choices. Might cost $100 to 200 for a really nice one but it's a one time purchase and will really make your get togethers something special.

Good luck!

Another item to consider in addition to a trophy is a medalion that the winner can attach like a name tag to his bag to remind the rest of you who's your daddy for the year.

There are so many possibilities that come to mind. Any photos? Why am I envisioning an old bowling trophy that says Winter Champions 1976?

I run a trip every year and have yet to find a "scoring" website that has the flexibility I need. I'd recommend buying your own domain and creating your own site. This is also a great way to keep guys abreast of tee times, directions, etc...

As for the trophy, I end up purchasing a really nice print of one of the courses we play and have it framed professionally. It's a nice touch and is a reminder of the trip that no one is ashamed to hang on an office wall. Who really needs a trophy if you're over 15 years old anyways :taunt:

I know nothing about owning a website. But that sounds awesome.

You should get a wrestling belt like wwf kinda thing we do that for my mens hockey league

I also put on a scramble every year I call it the "ghettoblaster open" I took a radio from the 80's and bolted it to a nice finished base and put a little placard on it with the winners names it still plays if anyone is rich enough to put eight D batteries in it lol

Dude! Where do I get a belt!?

Trophy shop.

We have a belt that gets transferred for our league champion. There's a "silver plate on it and the winners name gets engraved. It wraps around the reigning champs bag at the last outing.

OP, you should also plan on having a "champion's dinner" in honor of the winner. The whole group takes the winner out to an all expenses paid celebration of their victory. At the restaurant of their choosing of course.

Scoring is a tough one for sure. We purchased our domain and a buddy wrote the code for our scoring and leaderboard. It is pretty nice to be able to see live scoring!

We have typically just done a net stroke play tourney...this year was a weird format that ended in a 2 round stableford tourney following 4 rounds of more or less seeding.

www.stogieopen.com

We ordered a trophy that looks like the claret jug...we got it online, but I don't recall the website...wish I could find it for you.

Cheers,

Justin

A little different suggestion, we had a group of 16-20 and there were all different skill levels. We would play different formats in the morning and scramble in the afternoon. Points were kept but at the end of the 4 days the guy in last place would win the trophy. It was a plaque with a trophy of a horses a** on it and you had to get your name engraved and display it prominently somewhere for the entire year until the trip the next year.

This is me accepting the trophy last year for our league. Note that each year a name is added.

Lots of great suggestions. Green Jacket and Website are a must if you want to make this an ongoing thing. Our web site details all the bets we play, the foursomes for each day along with the game of the day. Mid week we do a calcutta and we end the week with our big Tourney Day (9 hole individual match play, 9 hole better ball with partner in your foursome). Our group just had it's 32nd annual trip to Myrtle with no signs of slowing down.

We have our golf trip every year to Canton, Oh and it's usually anywhere from 24-32 guys and it's always 4 man scramble..A,B,C and D.

What we did was purchase 4 playboy shirts with small playboy cover photos all over the shirt and at the end of each day the winning team from the day before puts it on a member of the NEW winning team and they sign their name in it when we're handing out prize money. It's kind of like our Green Jacket and the winning team wears it in the hotel bar and to the local bars too, it's a very cool tradition for our group and EVERYBODY wants the shirt!
