Aldila DVS

Recommended Posts

On the FW, does this shaft play stiffer or softer? I'm right between a stiff/regular flex and right now I'm using stiff flex for all my irons and hybrids, but on the driver and FW, I'm using regular. But then again, every shaft is different, so I'm trying to figure out whether I should buy the stiff or the regular flex on the Aldila DVS.

If some of you are saying this is a higher launch shaft, then it would make sense to go with the stiff. But then again, traditionally, Aldila shafts are typically a little more stiff than the other brands.

Any suggestions?

This is a pretty butt stiff shaft, so it feels pretty stout.

I have both the R and S flex for Imix driver, I prefer the feel of the R.

Just picked up a Diablo 3 wood couple weeks ago, hit both S and R, went with R for feel. Very smooth shaft, I haven't notices the R being to soft, it's very controllable.

I checked out the specs on the Aldila website; there does not seem to be a big difference between the S and the R from a numbers perspective. Does it only "feel" better with the R or are you actually getting more distance by using the R?

I've struggled for months trying to decide between S & R flex and to be honest, I do feel the difference, but it's not significant. In other words, i don't feel like the R is giving me more distance and I don't feel like the S is giving me more control.

What shaft flex are you using for your hybrids and irons?

I'd say the R then. Since you don't notice much difference. For me, the difference is not in torquem however butt stiffness. Aldila changed their website, so from memory the R CPM is like 245 or 248, the S CPM is like 262, that's where the feel is for me.

My driver shafts are DVS R and S, Diamana Blue 63 S, Red 73 S, Fubuki 63 Tour S flex.

Hybrids are Fuji Vista Pro 90 S and TM Reax 85 R (feels better).

Fairways are Diablo with DVS R (for feel), XHot Fuji Bonzai R (feel again), Nike SQ2 (not square) stock Diamana S, TM 200 with ProLite 3.5 S.

Irons are either DG S300, DG SL S300, Apex 4 and Nippon 1100s (likely about R500/S100)

All wedges are Dyn Gold S300.

So, I choose clubs by feel. I can control most anything if I get used to it.

DVS is a very under rated shaft, hit a few more with each flex and make your choice on feel, it lends to confidence.

I have a 65g regular fitted as standard in my Benross Innovator X. I used to be wary of Aldila shafts after a particularly depressing experience with the Aldila low torque fitted to some irons in the early 90s (they were crap). However I find that this shaft really does work for me. It hits the ball on a hight (but not ballooning) trajectory and the light weight means even though I'm getting long in the tooth I can still manage between 95 and 98 mph swing speed. Dispersion is impressive and it takes a really bad swing to get the club to go badly off line. Furthermore I find that by distributing my weigth to favour the left side very slightly, I can actually hit a low boring shot into the wind. I have just scored a pair of Adams insight XTD fairway woods with the same shaft.

Just got the DVS 60g Stiff for my I-Mix FT-IQ Tour 9.5*, I can say the feel is not quite as good as an NV but this combo overall has a very pleasing, solid feel. Let me tell you as far as distance this thing is a cannon, the launch angle is fairly high but still goes a mile with a pretty good rollout as well. I cannot comment on the despersion without taking into account the anti-curve nature of the FT-IQ head, that being said the most a drive has been off line is about 10 yards (not too bad for me). I also have a GD YSQ Tour AD that feels a little better than the DVS and is a little more accurate but about 10 or 15 yards shorter ... basically the DVS is for longer courses and the YSQ is for the tight and shorter Donald Ross courses around here.

The Aldila DVS takes power to a new level. The DVS features an innovative, new responsive tip design for extra kick at impact with an optimum launch. Stabilized with a unique flex profile and very low torque – distance is maximized. Aldila's revolutionary Micro Laminate Technology, enhanced with carbon nanotubes, provides for perfect feel. High performance technology harnessed and perfected into a special blend of weight, torque, flex and feel. Simply put, it's sneaky long.

Does anyone know if the Aldila DVS 60-S will fit on a Taylor Made R9 Supertri 9.5* R?

Thanks

You'll probably get more help if you start a new thread asking this question in the clubmaking section.
